We found this place by chance. It was a quiet, very pleasant place. The staff are super friendly and make you feel at home. Locals eat there. The food is homemade and delicious. The simplicity is wonderful. I recommend trying the soup of the day! Good value. However, there's a slight fishy smell on your clothes, nothing unforgivable, a result of cooking in such a small place. If you're passing through Athlone, eat there!

We were in at a very busy time and were part of a large group. Even so, the team delivered great food, at a fair price, as quickly as possible. We'll done

I was recommended to try the Left Bank Bistro for lunch when in Athlone, but because I hadn’t made a reservation, they couldn’t accommodate me; on a Saturday at lunchtime they were booked. The hostess recommended Loaves and Fishes around the corner and I couldn’t have found a more perfect place to eat lunch. The Traditional Panini was delicious: a thick slice of tender home-baked ham with mild cheese and mayo inside perfectly toasted, fresh, buttery ciabatta bread. I chose salad for my side - mixed greens tossed in a light vinaigrette and also accompanied by a small serving of a carrot/cabbage slaw in a light sauce. They were also sweet to bring an extra cup of balsamic vinaigrette which I didn’t end up needing after all but was also a nice thick balsamic. The service was excellent, the portions generous, and the ambiance perfect. They also have pastries to eat here or to go. Tucked away on a side street, it would be easy to miss. Perfect for solitary diners like me, or couples and families with young children.

We stopped in on our way from Galway to Dublin. The food was worth the trip! Our server was a delight. We had the specials of the day, panko fish and homemade ravioli. The fish was maybe the best I've ever had. It just melted in my mouth. Everyone of us thoroughly enjoyed the town, the meal and the service.
