The negative reviews are amusing - maybe show up at a reasonable time instead of 9pm close to closing time? Anyway, the food was quite good and a welcome change from the Irish cuisine everywhere else. Friendly service and BYOB made for an enjoyable dining experience. Can’t speak to the takeaway issues people are complaining about, but maybe go sit down and enjoy a coursed-out meal rather than judging on taking things in a box back home?

12/02/2026: Wharton’s Chipper in Bantry serves really lovely food – fresh, well cooked, and definitely the highlight of the visit. Unfortunately, the service could be a bit nicer, as it felt somewhat unfriendly. Overall, great food, but a warmer attitude from staff would make the experience much better, but in saying that I would go back because the food was so nice

24/10/2025: This little gem is worth walking an extra 5 minutes from the main square. Visited first with a local and returned with my husband, who is very picky about his mochas. Lucky for us, Orla—the most gracious and wonderful barista—was there for both visits. In addition to her friendly demeanor, Orla serves up delicious coffee. Though the delights of Grounded Coffee are served from a cute little food truck, they offer plenty of seating… even a cozy, inside area with heat and comfortable seating. And there are great views too. Can’t wait to return!
