The Monks is in a fabulous location, beside the sea in North Clare. Friendly greeting and brought to our table within minutes. Four of our group had the chowder, it was absolutely delicious and served with lovely brown bread. The mains were a bit disappointing. Two of us ordered the halibut but we were informed it was no longer available. I had pan-fried salmon instead, and I wouldn't have it again. It came on a bed of green! Peas, beans, broccoli accompanied with mashed potatoes. Not at all nice. The other members of the group agreed that the main courses need to step up. We didn't have dessert. As I said the location and chowder fabulous.

If you're looking for seafood in County Clare, this is the place. Seafood chowder and mussel dishes are recommended. It's also close to Galway.

Hands down one of the best fish and chips I've ever had. A welcome reprieve from the awful offerings from nearby Doolin. Highly recommended.

We visited Monks restaurant en route back from the Cliffs of Moher. Wow! This was the best fish and chips we have ever had. The fish batter was perfectly crispy and the right amount of batter. The fries were triple cooked to perfection as well.
We enjoyed the special starter - crab claws --- perfectly cooked with a delicious garlic butter. We also got the fish pie- again a great ratio of topping to delicious, plentiful fish. Thanks for a delightful lunch and hope to one day pass through again!

A fabulous dog-friendly stay. We stayed in the Courtyard Apartments which were spacious and comfortable. All staff were so friendly and welcoming.
We loved that our dog was welcome in all areas including the restaurant. It was so nice to be able to take him everywhere with us and a big reason we booked this accommodation!
We had dinner and breakfast during our stay and the food was delicious. We ordered the mussels, chowder, prawn curry and beef/guinness stew. O’Loclainns pub a few doors up is also well worth visiting.
Our only regret is not staying longer….We will 100% be back!

Booked a room here last minute and it was so fab. Room was beautiful, staff so friendly, and you walk out the front door and the sea is right in front of you. Just a really relaxed stay and great value for money. Will definitely be back
