Colette and the entire team at Monks were kind, welcoming, and friendly. The hotel appeared updated and was comfortable. The restaurant served a great fish pie and some delicious salty oysters.

Fish chowder was great but the brown bread? Chef’s kiss!!!! So delicious. Fish and chips was a huge portion and the side salad was yum

We thoroughly enjoyed staying at Monks! The location is ideal, the room was very comfortable- especially the bed, which we loved! And the breakfast was really great quality, unlike so many in hotels these days. We traveled with a 3 month old and they were very accommodating with a travel cot. If available I recommend getting a room on the second floor with a sea view 🌊

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at Monks in Ballyvaughan end of April. Room 5 offered a lovely, quiet view of the planted courtyard. We stay regularly - room 4 has a grear bay view - and really enjoy the breakfast: Beautiful presentation, and Monks gets the poached eggs just right, which isn't a given in many places. We love the attentive bar staff also, with a young waiter - without being asked - not hesitating to add a tablelamp to our twilight hour of doing a jont crossword in the dimly lit, atmospheric bar. It's small things like that, that makes us return. Special mention also of Colette at front desk for always being so friendly, prompt and helpful.

Monks is one of our favorite haunts on The Burren. And dog friendly too! We often bring our terrier Molly before going on a walk along the coast. The fish and chips are excellent and always a sound option. I would also recommend their beef and guinness stew. Order a side of triple cooked chips to dip in the gravy. Double potatoes! (Comes with mash). You won't regret it.
Recently, I enjoyed another meal there, however; it wasn't until I had returned home that I realised to my horror I had lost my wallet! As soon as I found out, I called the hotel and spoke to Colette. She was very sympathetic to the situation and made every effort to locate my valuables, which had fortunately been returned by the right honourable night porter, Vlad (after only his third day on the job). The silver lining turned out to be another enjoyable meal on the return trip to pick up my wallet. Thank you both for restoring my faith in humanity. As always, we Look forward to our next visit.
