Do NOT order the fish and chips! Absolutely awful!!!
It costs 20 euros, and only the chips were edible. The fish was incredibly oily and tasteless, and the fish itself was bland and unappetizing. This could easily be the worst fish and chips ever. I was so angry after eating it. I even peeled off the oily crust and ate only the tiny bit of fish inside, but it was still awful. How can they make it so bad? It's amazing!
Fisherman’s pie is delicious! The potato pie sits on a bed of creamy seafood soup. The umami and creaminess are both fantastic! Highly recommended!
The teriyaki chicken is also good. It's fried chicken served over a layer of spicy Chinese fried rice. The fried rice is very fragrant and delicious.
Why is it that one restaurant can have such extreme flavors, with some items being incredibly delicious and others extremely bad?

This was my favorite restaurant during my trip to Dublin. We spent half a day in Howth hiking and working up an appetite. We found this cute pub that actually had soccer on the big screen. The atmosphere inside was perfect: not too loud, not too quiet, pleasant lighting. The service was the best we’ve had. All of the waiters and waitresses worked together and were very attentive. The special of the day was chicken wrapped in bacon with grilled leek, mashed potatoes and a creamy leek sauce. The sauce was amazing!!! Everything was amazing and they were the best mashed potatoes that I had during my trip. Everything was actually seasoned well unlike a lot of places in the city that were bland and dull. My husband got the prawn tacos which were also amazing. Pricing was very fair and I definitely want to return to this place if we return to Ireland in the future. The locals were in the restaurant and I now know why.

Visiting from NJ. Friends that live in Ireland brought us here. The pub has a great relaxed vibe. The Guinness was excellent and the Fish and Chips was the best I've ever had. Hope to return some day

What an amazing pub! Traditional atmosphere, fantastic food (the seafood is a must-try!), and a breathtaking view. The service was fast and very friendly. It's the ideal place to experience the true atmosphere of an Irish pub. Highly recommended!

We walked along the cliffs and the harbor and then ate a great meal at OConnels. We had a big table upstairs in what felt like a private room. The Irish stew was incredible and large! Everyone enjoyed their food and drinks and great service!

My wife has organised the most incredible 4 days in Dublin, with immaculate research and planning. A coastal walk at Howth followed by a bowl of mussels sounded idyllic. The walk was stunning, however, sadly O’Connells was a disappointment.
My wife ordered the mussels she was so looking forward to. Being in the harbour, where we assume the mussels are brought in, it was a surprise that the mussels were tiny, and not the big, fat succulent ones shown on the website. Cooked in a beautiful broth, but just so tiny. I had the battered haddock and it was the size of a kids portion. I was somewhat envious as we walked back to the train to see people with their fish and chips, with fish a good twice the size of mine.
Service was great, just had high expectations of a restaurant with a reputation for fish and seafood, that fell short.
