This is the best Indian food I ever tasted. The dishes are so well cooked and presented. It’s not all sauce and meat with rice. Lots of unusual dishes, a small menu and good wine. I would travel for this food. I love Ananda in Dublin but this is better.

We live in NYC and are here in Birr visiting with people from all over the world, who have also visited India. Sanjay makes excellent food. The leg of lamb was falling off the bone, the chicken tikka masala was sweet and spicy. The Italian wine fit the meal. This is great Indian food no matter where you come from.

In a hurry, got a carryout. Fast service and excellent food. Lamb curry, and a really Fabulous naan. Don't hesitate, eat here.

If I pass through Birr, Sanjays is a must. Great food . Didn't have any of the below mentioned dishes. Monk fish great. Thy duck dish I loved. Vegetarian dishes. All recommended. Cosy place in Birr town

We are from Holland and where surprised by the perfect kitchen. Only restaurant open on Sunday evening. But also the best in Birr. Beautiful tastes. We can recommend !

Visited the place for dinner... Starters were excellent and up to the mark... Loved the samosas which had goat cheese and spinach stuffing n the fish fry.... The chicken biryani portion was less for the money spent and we found the naans average. Staff were polite and friendly. The ambience was quite dull (lighting) and the background music wasn't appealing ...needs a bit of workup.

10/10/2024: This is such a beautiful spot. We walked down from the square and glad we passed the other few cafes on the way down. It was busy which is always a good sign. We ordered some breakfast paninis, Tea and a Latte. Portions were enough to satisfy and the taste was divine. Lovely atmosphere with more to the cafe then the front room. Great value for the quality of the food and service. If you're in Birr pop in you won't be disappointed. Had to buy some cake and Gluten free buns before we left. Couldn't resist...
05/10/2024: Had really tasty latte and pastries there on friday. Service was very nice from 2 girls but not very nice and welcoming from one girl at the till who took our order- she seemed annoyed when I asked questions about food and drinks for kids, I probably didn't order food fast enough and asked too many questions- that is impression I got.

Townsend House

04/10/2024: We’ve just returned after two really enjoyable days at Townsend House in Birr. The warmth, hospitality and comfort at Townsend House was truly five star. The breakfasts were brilliant and the tapas last night were gorgeous and served brilliantly. Well done to Martin and Lorraine and their staff.
15/08/2024: Rooms were lovely and the garden was a fantastic quiet respite. Unfortunately our room was on the front and the traffic noise is horrendous. Our mates had a room in the back and said it was one of their best nights so I gave it 4 stars anyhow, but be sure not to take a room in the front. Also every pub and restaurant in town is closed on Wednesday and Thursday so we had to walk about a mile to a large hotel where we had a mediocre meal.
