I was in sugrues multiple times last week and during my trip to west cork, it is a lovely small little restaurant. The food is gorgeous, and the staff are brilliant. All the fish and meat are fresh from the local fisheries and butchers. Highly recommend checking this restaurant out if you are in castletownbere.

A great selection of cakes, which were constantly replenished while we were there. Friendly staff, good coffee – what more could you want? :-)

Walked into Sugrues and the whole place erupted into applause 👏. Don't be disappointed if this isn't the case for you, but if you've just ran the Beara Way Ultra you'd deserve it. The Full Irish and cinnamon French toast 😋😋(yummy) and a pot of tea with big cups. The Breakfast menu is great (best I've ever seen) it has something for everyone. Got a Coffee to takeaway also very good.

Fabulous! Excellent service, yummy food and very dog friendly. I couldn't decide what to have, so the lovely lady made up a dish just for me! My dog was made so welcome, they gave him a sausage (checked with me first 👍). Calm, welcoming atmosphere, fresh fish, definitely worth a visit 😃

I can’t believe we found such a gem right in the middle of Castletown-Bearhaven. The food was perfectly cooked and tasted incredible. A huge thanks to the host for being so welcoming with our dogs. They even offered them water and food, which was such a nice touch. It’s definitely a great spot for a relaxed family breakfast or lunch.

Amazing food and friendly staff .I went for cake with my to daughters. The cake was moist and wasn’t dry at all . The reason I left 4 stars is because my eldest ordered sparkling water but she got black current cordial. She was very disappointed but didn’t say it because she didn’t want to be rude . Good food but should pay attention to orders

18/05/2026: An authentic pub with very nice and friendly service. We had delicious mussels from the local Kenmare Bay and a Guinness 0.0 on tap. It tastes really good for a non-alcoholic beer. MacCarthy's is definitely a must-visit if you're in Castleberetown.

Murphy's Restaurant

15/02/2026: Stayed in Castletownbere for a week. First two evenings we tried to eat there but they had a special event both nights. Finally on our 3rd time a charm the last night we were there we ate at Murphys. Saved the best for last. Great food and service and the owner is a really great guy that is very knowledgeable about the area and history of the area. He will give you great advice about the must hits of the Beara Peninsula.
13/10/2025: My husband and I had a fabulous dinner at Murphy’s Restaurant in Castletownbere. We started with an excellent prawns and chorizo appetizer and then had the duck dinner and the leg of lamb dinner. We finished with the pavlova. Each dinner had plentiful sides of potatoes, carrots, parsnips, green beans and red cabbage. Everything was fresh, abundant and delicious. Service was very good. We had a lovely chat with the 3rd generation chef/owner who not only cooked a great meal but also made some nice recommendations for our trip. We very highly recommend Murphy’s to everyone coming to the Beara Peninsula.
