A great place to eat simple food made with locally sourced ingredients inside Cork's English Market. Super friendly service, a menu featuring dishes like local lamb stew, soups, salads, and sandwiches, complemented by daily specials, including Irish classics such as pork and potato pie or a salad with local trout smoked using various techniques. Colorful, well-balanced, and enjoyable food. Excellent soda bread with butter, and delicious homemade desserts. We didn't get to try the famous lemon tart, but we did have an excellent brownie, a very rustic bread pudding with custard, and a light and tasty apple pie. A very good place.

This cafe is located on the second floor of the English Market. I had tea and a scone. The price wasn't exactly cheap, but the portion size was substantial and satisfying. The view of the market from the window was also nice. I entered at the same time as a solo traveler and sat next to her. We chatted for a bit, and for some reason, we ended up sharing a scone. Looking back, it might have seemed a bit strange, but at the time, it felt natural. What impressed me even more was the cafe's laid-back attitude. I never really figured out where to pay. The atmosphere made me uneasy, as if I could just quietly leave without paying, so I ended up asking. While worrying too much about the details might make you feel uneasy, that laid-back attitude, along with everything else, made me think, "This is Ireland," and it's something I remember fondly.

Traditional Irish comfort food with a view in the English Market. The lentil pie was a good vegan option! Go after the lunch rush.

The Fota Restaurant

05/07/2026: Hotel is lovely, the room was really nice & every employee we encountered during our stay was very friendly. Sarah on reception was very helpful in helping us get checked in & showing us around the hotel too, overall a great stay.
01/06/2026: Think closer to a 4 star than a 5 star. Breakfast on the first morning was only ok. Full irish was over cooked and bacon was not good. Service very slow. Reception woke us up at 10.40 looking for a credit card number. It could have waited till morning as we were staying 2 nights but when I suggested this they didn't see to agree. Being honest tho the foor in Amber bar was very good and staff were lovely.

Lavish

05/08/2026: Had the Chicken shawarma with chips and a can of coke for a bargain the food was good and was prepared quickly
02/08/2026: Been here loads but not had anything in ages, I missed out the lamb curry on the bone is unreal and the fried chicken would give KFC a run for its money.
