🎶 Latin Quarter – Galway We visited the Latin Quarter, the historic and most lively quarter in the center of Galway, which extends mainly around Quay Street, Cross Street and High Street. Narrow cobblestone streets, colorful facades, numerous pubs, restaurants, shops and street musicians create a characteristic atmosphere of this Irish city. The quarter was named after the Latin language and the European trade connections that marked medieval Galway. The city was an important trading center, in which merchant families connected to the European continent played an important role. Traditional Irish pubs and live music give the Latin Quarter a special touch. We walked along the lively streets, where historic buildings intertwine with the modern city pulse. The Latin Quarter remained in our memory as the heart of Galway – lively, colorful and somewhat unpredictable. Here we felt the most relaxed Irish vibe, created by music, people, pubs and the narrow streets of the old town. 🇮🇪🎶 The walk around Galway was wonderful. We saw the following sights: Spanish Arch – a remnant of the 16th century city walls along the Corrib River. The name is associated with Galway's trade connections with Spain. Hall of the Red Earl – archaeological remains of a 13th century building associated with the de Burgh family; it was once an important administrative and tax center of medieval Galway. Lynch's Castle – one of the best preserved medieval townhouses in Galway, built or developed as a fortified house of the influential Lynch family. Today it houses a bank. The Latin Quarter – the very core of the quarter with High Street, Cross Street and Quay Street, cobbled streets, historic buildings, pubs and street musicians. St. Nicholas’ Collegiate Church – a medieval church founded in 1320, today the largest medieval parish church in Ireland still in regular use.
