The Lighthouse Cafe in Galway

Dropped in for lunch and it was great. It does get busy even during mid week so arrive as close to 12 as you can (was still a few seats outside on a cold day). Had the Mushroom stroganoff and a Mushroom roll. Both were fantastic with the roll having nice dark flaky pastry after being warmed well (no salad included so only a small meal/snack). The mushroom and zucchini stroganoff (stew of the day) was equality amazing and came with a beautiful salad, brown rice and a root vegetable puree. Lots of Vegetarian cafes make the mistake of going overboard with onion, cumin, vinegar or curry powder which overload the dish with strong flavours. Not here. Very subtlety spriced and delicious.

Uncomplicated and relaxed. The staff is very warm and helpful. Allergies are addressed flexibly. For example, there are various milk alternatives. We had a bowl, sandwich, carrot cake, espresso and chai. In total we were <50€

2024 Update - has the lighthouse changed ownership? I really didn't enjoy my last trip. Waiting staff seem inexperienced, asking me what cutlery I thought I needed, multi-tasking to the point of not completing simple things, all of which left my customer experience lacking. My wife asked for a side of sourdough bread which arrived as toast. When returned and bread finally arrived, it was stale (probably the day before's) and not nice enough to eat. The vegan hotpot was nice though expensive at €14 for a small bowl with a bit of salad on the side.

Cozy atmosphere and very tasty food!

Vegans, don’t miss this spot in Galway Latin District. Separate menus for breakfast and lunch. Sweets too. I had oat milk pancakes with some delicious berry compote and coconut yoghurt on top for breakfast. Some kind of bean and veggie bowl for lunch. Plus carrot cake. All yummy!
