The Old Barracks Restaurant in Athenry

We stopped in for a quick lunch on our way west and were very very happily surprised at how good the food was, how interesting the menu is, and how good the service was.

As a vegetarian, I often struggle to find good places to eat, especially away from major cities. The menu at the Barracks has undergone a few changes in my time coming here, and not only do they continue to cater for myself and vegans as well, but with each menu iteration they outdo themselves with the quality of their food. Their new veggie burger, based on a panko-coated portobello mushroom, is absolutely delicious. It is, in fact, the best veggie burger I've ever had! It was absolutely delicious and is a fantastic addition to the menu. Their curry and pasta dishes are also excellent, and desserts from the Old Barracks have become a staple treat in our household. As someone who only moved to Athenry within the past year, discovering the Old Barracks and their sister restaurant, the Stonehouse, has been an absolute pleasure. I have visited a few times, sometimes alone for a quick lunch, and other times for a longer catch-up with my family, and without fail the staff have been kind, chatty, and friendly.

Another fabulous weekend celebrating a birthday at the Old Barracks, Athenry. We ate in both the Bistro and the Stone House Pizza Bar. Food was outstanding and great value. Loved the pizza, sundaes and cocktails in the Stone House. Amazing, friendly staff with Scott and Denise at the helm. Nothing is too much trouble, they always go the extra mile. Beautiful accomodation is the icing on the cake, no wonder we keep coming back!

We had 2 different types of pizza, they were really, really delicious, couldn’t be any better. The Moretti was also perfect. We would definitely go again .

From the quaint town of Athenry, the beautiful Abbey Row suite to the delicious food at the Old Barracks restaurant our stay was perfect. The restaurant staff was top notch. I will miss my morning mocha and the feeling of being so welcomed. Special thank you to Scott for his generous room upgrade and being so understanding when we called for help getting in the door. ; ) My husband was so happy with his birthday/anniversary trip.
