The Old Barracks Restaurant in Athenry

Excellent cuisine, interesting interior with the possibility to sit both inside and on the veranda and even outdoors. The staff worked professionally. Pet-friendly. We hope to visit again. There are parking lots nearby and it is pleasant to walk from them in the original center of the town

We love the Old Barracks and always stop in there when passing through or visiting Athenry. The food is very tasty and they often have something a little different to other restaurants - their new halloumi salad is a new favourite with my daughter! We've also tried their catering once at a family do and it was great, delish garlic potatoes! What makes this place so exceptional is the staff, all of whom are so friendly and seem genuinely delighted to be working there. I'd especially like to mention the manager with a beard, he is so accommodating and lovely with children. The only one tiny thing I would love to see them change is the water jug situation - the water seems to sit with fruit dissolving into it all day, so by the time you drink it it's full of bits. This has been the case every time we've been there and honestly it's just very off-putting.

Food was a bit overly organic style for me. I just wanted a bowl of normal porridge with fruit and syrup but it wasn't available. It was an alternative type of porridge. The scone I opted for instead was very dry. The service was excellent though and I am sure if one is into the different types of 'healthier' 'organic' type foods it would all be delicious. I don't really like frys, but even the scrambled egg options had too much going on. But sometimes people just like to eat normal plain ol' stuff. The menu should cater for a bit of both.

The Buttermilk Chicken was fantastic - juicy, tender, and extremely flavorful! The Fish and Chips were brilliant and the service was great! This casual café was the perfect lunch spot!

Super delicious gluten-free burger. Breakfast is also great and there are many alternatives for intolerances. Really classy.

Great survive and really nice food!

We stopped in for a quick lunch on our way west and were very very happily surprised at how good the food was, how interesting the menu is, and how good the service was.

A gorgeous, busy little restaurant with a lovely atmosphere and even better food. You can tell the love the chefs have for their job and everything is cooked and presented to perfection. There were 4 of us and all of us absolutely loved it. We had dinner and also breakfast. The waiting staff are quite young but they are really well trained and just so lovely. It was a really good experience and I have no hesitation in recommending this gorgeous little place
