The Playwright in Kilkenny

Excellent Irish poet breakfast. Delicious!

I had a chicken burger, chips, salad & coleslaw and a couple of pints of Guinness. My wife had Shepard's pie, which was a very generous helping. Absolutely fabulous and we found we couldn't finish the amount served up. The food took a while, but well worth the wait. Everything was fresh & piping hot. We will return again shortly, this time I'll post photos

Nice hidden away location, food is delicious no matter what you get, went in after a night of Christmas shopping and was given great service. Can be noisy when busy but overall a great atmosphere.

The Playwright / Cave Café in Kilkenny was a standout experience. The space itself has great ambiance and a warm, inviting feel, and the service was friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. The real star, though, was the shepherd’s pie. It was hands down the best I had during our entire trip across Kilkenny, Dublin, and Belfast. Rich, perfectly seasoned, and incredibly comforting, it was the kind of dish you keep thinking about long after the meal ends. I loved it so much that I immediately wanted to try recreating it at home, which says everything. I only wish I had the recipe. Seriously, if you want to share it, I am all in. If you are in Kilkenny, this place is an easy recommendation. Great food, great atmosphere, and excellent service all around.

Authentic irish food and irish pub. Many great lunch and dinner options are available. It is neat as it has the old exposed brick inside and you can tell they work hard to preserve the authenticity of the place. Lots of room to sit and enjoy

Very good BBQ burgers and fish and chips. Very friendly service. Highly recommended.

Great pub: delicious food and fair value. Cozy interior, typical Irish live music, and well-chilled beer. The service was extremely friendly, and even though it was already quite full, they managed to make room for us. I highly recommend it when in Kilkenny.

Had lunch there on 10th September, sat outside as had the dogs with me. Fish and chips for me and beef for herself. Couldn't fault either of them, wife said the beef was the nicest she'd ever had. Staff very friendly, brought out water for the dogs. Would highly recommend a visit if you're in the area.

What a fantastic pub. Great experience. People watching par excellence.
