The food was delicious and the staff very friendly and attentive. A very cozy atmosphere with lots of local charm. There was live music while we were there. All in all, a lovely stay.

Had another really enjoyable experience here in The Playwright and discovered they have plenty of Gluten Free options also ! Would highly recommend to anyone in Kilkenny

The steak cooked on the stone was very good, and the idea of ​​grilling it yourself on that hot stone is great, and the decorations were fantastic.

I said to myself I wasn’t to hungry so went with the “playwright breakfast” glad I don’t go with the full. It was fab. The pasta is still my fav mains (but all are yum)

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fantastic spot in the heart of Kilkenny! Great atmosphere, friendly staff, excellent food, and live music that really adds to the authentic Irish pub experience. As tourists, we felt very welcome and had a brilliant time. Definitely worth a visit if you’re exploring Kilkenny!

we love this place. This is the third time we’ve been here and of many of the pubs in the area you cannot beat the hospitality, the friendliness and the attention. The food is so good. The fish and chips is amazing and it’s €17.

River Court Hotel

15/04/2026: Excellent stay last weekend with my baby as part of a hen party. Cannot thank the staff enough, I found myself staying on my own with my baby due to the fuel protests. The ladies on reception were so welcoming and helped with my luggage. The restaurant delivered my meal to the room, it was lovely. The hotel is great and the staff definitely made my stay enjoyable and relaxing.
08/04/2026: Good hotel located in the centre of kilkenny. Room was nice, clean and big, and despite it overlooking the main street it was quiet. Slightly odd setup that the quickest way to the hotel room was to leave the building and walk across the car park, but there was an option to walk through the hotel also. Bar was good, just went there for a drink, not food. Breakfast is self service and a good choice of hot and cold food.

23/08/2026: All of the food we ordered here was delicious and surprisingly big portions. We got sushi, ramen and fried chicken and everyone loved it.
