Went there spontaneously on my own. We quickly got a table to eat, as there was live music outside. They offered us a complimentary bottle of still water, as a matter of course. The seafood pie was really good. We also had a small cider.
Despite some minor language difficulties, the staff were incredibly friendly, patient, and attentive.
Then we went outside with a whisky to enjoy the live music. The atmosphere was fantastic, and it was free.
The selection of whiskies and gins at the bar was excellent.
All in all, highly recommended.

The service was a bit shaky, well-intentioned but lacking in responsiveness (the ketchup we ordered only arrived at the end of the meal...). The terrace was great, and the dishes were very generous and delicious.

Very bad with non alcoholic options.. Couldn't even make me a simple spritz for a bar that size on a summer's day. Was offered one premade bottle of something that tasted vile.. Should definitely up the game with the creativity for people that aren't drinking but don't just want a coke or a 00 Heineken.. Something summery and fruity a bit creative, was very surprised at lack of options

Part of the restaurant has sections of the medieval wall that one connected to Reginald's Tower. Had my favorite seafood chowder of my entire trip here, served with Guiness walnut brown bread. Highly recommend!

If you are looking for a spot that takes classic food seriously, you’ve found it.
I recently stopped by for a meal at The Reg, and it proved exactly why the best way to handle fish and chips is to keep it simple and high-quality.
The fish and chips arrived as an absolute masterclass. The fish itself was superb, featuring an incredibly crispy batter cooked to absolute perfection without a hint of greasiness. It paired beautifully with the chips, which were exactly what you want them to be light, golden, wonderfully crispy on the outside, and fluffy on the inside. The overall presentation was sharp and clean, proving that traditional dishes look spectacular when given proper care.
What elevates a meal here from a standard night out into something truly unforgettable is the building itself. The Reg is built directly around a stunning, 900-year-old medieval city wall that cuts straight through the main bar. The original stonework is fully exposed and beautifully lit, featuring actual historic sallyports—ancient stone arches where defenders once stood. It adds an incredible layer of character to the atmosphere, letting you sit right alongside centuries of Waterford's heritage while you eat.
To follow the main course, we opted for tea and the deconstructed strawberry cheesecake. It was a fascinating and highly creative take on a traditional dessert. The presentation here was brilliant, offering a visually striking twist that made digging into the layers feel like a premium experience.
The atmosphere tied the whole visit together beautifully, making for a genuinely cozy and satisfying dining experience. Combined with the exceptionally friendly, welcoming service from the staff, it made a lasting impression.
Final Verdict: One of Waterford's best-kept secrets. Between the flawless execution of a classic dish and the opportunity to dine right against a piece of living history, this spot is a must-visit.
For this I award 5 out of 5 stars.
