The Tan Yard in Killarney

We visited The Tanyard for our anniversary dinner and came away feeling a little disappointed overall. The restaurant itself is beautiful, with a lovely atmosphere that makes it a great setting for a special occasion. The service was also excellent throughout the evening – every member of staff we interacted with was genuinely friendly, attentive and professional. To start, we ordered the scallops and the beef tartare. While both dishes were well presented, we felt they lacked a little seasoning and depth of flavour, so neither really stood out. For our mains, we both ordered the fillet steak. My wife’s was cooked perfectly to her requested medium rare and she really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, mine arrived closer to medium than medium rare, which was disappointing, particularly given the price point. At €45 for a steak, I also expected a higher-quality side than the chips that were served, which reminded me more of fast-food style fries than those you’d expect in a restaurant of this calibre. Overall, the service was the standout and certainly deserved five stars, but we felt the food didn’t quite live up to the standard or price. With a few improvements in consistency and attention to detail, it could be an excellent dining experience.

The food was tasty, the portions were small, and the staff were friendly. However, there were a couple of unpleasant situations. First, the food I didn't finish and asked to take away was thrown out because they thought I wanted them to "take it away." At the beginning of our visit, I asked them to put my container in the fridge. I didn't say there was a cake inside (I was bringing it to my parents). At the end, my mom mentioned that it was my birthday and asked if they could congratulate me. The staff took my cake out of the container without asking, decorated it with berries and candles, and brought it out. Thank you for the gesture, but you should have asked for my permission before taking my cake.

It was absolutely delicious and highly recommended! We thoroughly enjoyed our evening. The desserts, in particular, are highly recommended. The scallops were also fantastic! We'd love to come back again!

The food here was decent and the service was amazing as they managed to accommodate for parts of our group that had to leave early. We had the set menu and most of the things we got were nice. I had the croquettes for my starters and it was crunchy and creamy. I also tried the roasted baby beetroot which was nice and sweet. For my main, I had the sirloin cooked medium and it was nicely cooked albeit a little bit under seasoned. Lastly for the dessert, the cheesecake was a little bit too rich making it hard to complete the entire portion but the yuzu cake was nice with the perfect amount of acidity. Overall, a good dinner 👍

Unfortunately this was a very good restaurant!Service and atmosphere still hold the same high values.I got the €40 steak and that's where the problems began.its not a 10oz steak!! it comes with a small rather untasteful salad and chips that you'd get in frozen section in any supermarket!!Come on for 40 euro😬.We had to pay extra for sides broccoli etc.With any steak of that price you should at least get mushrooms onions something!! Very disappointed.

Enjoyed the Irish Short Rib very much. Good serving size of tender beef with pearled onions, mushrooms, and sauce over pommes. Burrata was from Italy and was so fresh.

I recently visited The Tan Yard for my birthday meal and had such a wonderful experience from start to finish. Evan looked after us throughout the evening and truly went above and beyond to make the occasion special. His service was warm, attentive, and professional, ensuring everything ran smoothly and that we had everything we needed. A special thank you also to the kitchen staff, who were incredibly generous and surprised us with some extra side dishe on the house. It was such a thoughtful touch and made the evening even more memorable. The food was absolutely delicious, the atmosphere was lovely, and the level of customer service was exceptional. It’s clear that the entire team takes great pride in what they do. Thank you to Evan and everyone at The Tan Yard for helping make my birthday celebration so special. We can’t wait to return!
