The Whale's Tail in Clonakilty

The steak was cooked perfectly, made with high-quality ingredients, and really tasty. However, the prices are too high, and I expected a wider selection of fish dishes. The menu, atmosphere, and service feel a bit confusing. I’m not quite sure what type of restaurant this is trying to be.

On a cold wet Thursday in February my wife & I decided to travel from Glengarriff to Clonakilty to celebrate my birthday . It was well worth the trip , greeted by friendly staff & the meal was excellent . The Murphy’s stout bread was amazing . Being in the business we appreciate the hard work that goes into keeping a restaurant open . A lovely atmosphere & food was fantastic . Chicken with crab was excellent . We’re be back for the seafood linguine . Good food served by nice West Cork staff . Thanks for the surprise baked Alaska for my birthday. We will return .

Cannot say enough positive things about this restaurant. We dined as a large group last night and everything was beyond perfect. The food beat all expectations. Generous portions and absolutely delicious. The staff were efficient, friendly and attentive not a bad word to say.

Very tasty food - seafood, steaks, salads. We love eating here and have never been disappointed. Nice staff.

Fabulous meal here last night with my friend, Staff are so friendly and helpful and the food was amazing, We had the turkey and ham it was melt in the mouth and the dessert out of this world,Thanks Danny for looking after us so well.Highly reccomended and decorated beautifully for Christmas.

We moved to the Clonakilty area in October and it was very nice - especially on a Sunday night - to get a booking in this surprisingly busy restaurant. Welcome and service was great, calm and professional. Food was very good despite - or because of - a relatively limited menu. Good fish dishes, and decent Gyoza starter (sweet sauce unnecessary) and I saw a lot of very good looking steaks come out of the open kitchen also. Wine list is short and limited - it could do with a creative makeover. Will definitely return, it was a warm and pleasant experience. Probably better for small groups (3-6 people) rather than intimate couples. Great success, kudos to the lovely staff and chefs/cooks. West Cork rocks.

Really good meal & drinks with a beautiful atmosphere. Cocktails are 14€ which is a bit high but overall very good service.

Delicious food all round. Highly recommend the duck and the beef featherbone.
