Thyme in Athlone

Average, style over substance. The tartlet needed more salt. The woodpigeon was disappointing. I had only ever had it pink not as part of an apricot and walnut ballotine. It was overcooked? dry and didn't taste nice. The beef fillet was perfectly cooked but there wasn't enough beef cheek. The liquorice and rhubarb was delicious but I did think it would have been better if the rhubarb had been cooked a little more and was more tender. Initially the service was rushed.

Very expensive but worth it if you have the money. Woodpigeon as a starter was very rich in flavour and tastefully decorated. The rib eye beef was melt in the mouth and had a delicious gravy along with a big Yorkshire pudding. The chocolate souffle was also amazing, really warm and had caramel inside of it. Also they somehow made popcorn flavoured ice cream. Would recommend.

From Cork but happened to be in the area for 2 nights midweek. Booked a table here for Wednesday night based on recommendations online. Absolutely incredible meal, each course was inventive and delicious. Friendly atmosphere and huge value for money. Have often spent far more on far less quality food.

I loved everything about it. The food down to the finest detail was fantastic. Couple that with Irish hospitality in a lovely dining room and you have an experience to remember. I opted for the 5 course menu for €65 per head . Very reasonably priced. We had the crispy hens egg and the wood pigeon for starters, followed by the lamb and brill and finally the chocolate, salted caramel tart and the rhubarb and liquorice something. Everything was delicious. A very strong recommendation and may even convince me to move back to Ireland

An experience that will live long in my memory. Gorgeous food, lovely staff providing excellent service and a great atmosphere, and a room that is just a really nice place to be. Extremely good value, we paid 185 for two including drinks. If you are going to be anywhere near Athone, it is a must visit.

My husband and I chose Thyme Restaurant in Athlone for a romantic dinner to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and the entire experience was truly special from start to finish. The food was of the highest standard. Each dish was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. We were particularly impressed with the portion sizes, which were generous enough to leave us feeling very satisfied by the end of our meal. The service was both friendly and professional. The staff went out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed, adding to the overall excellence of the evening. Their attention to detail and genuine hospitality made our anniversary dinner all the more memorable. We will definitely be returning to Thyme Restaurant very soon. Had an early dinner here , restaurant nicely busy when we arrived. Warm and friendly staff, service excellent. As for the food, delicious and perfect. Congratulations to the kitchen team who let us enjoy such amazing combinations and tastes . Good wine list . I can only advise you go and book as quickly as possible. I’m rarely in Athlone but I may make it my business to arrange a visit here .

Went to Thyme with some friends. Food and service was exceptional. We nearly tried everything on the menu between four of us. Each course was better than the last. It’s a gem. Staff were very welcoming and efficient. Will be back.
