Vaughan's Anchor Inn in Liscannor

This was a recommendation from Olin at the Cliffs of Moher hotel and a quick walk from there. Looks like the menu changes frequently. We started with the scallops and they and the barley were cooked perfectly. So good, I was amazed. The venison and accompaniments were great. Though if you don't like rare meats, this might not be for you. The bread pudding with butter ice cream finished off a great birthday meal. I 100% recommend dining here. My wife and I shared all the plates.

We were pressed for time during an excursion, and the staff did everything they could to make sure we had time to eat quickly. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal; I highly recommend this establishment!

Perfect! The staff are incredibly attentive and kind. The service is quick and impeccable. The food is delicious and the setting is charming! I highly recommend this restaurant.

Been here quite a few times, and I have always been very happy with the food and the service, the best restaurant in Clare without a doubt !

Had lunch in here yesterday.Top class.My wife had salmon I had monkfish.Both were lovely and the veg were done perfectly.I had a cheese board for dessert.A really nice selection and big enough for two.Looking forward to returning

SERVE LUNCH FAST ENOUGH FOR A BUS TOUR!!! We came to this town on a paddywagon bus tour where they wanted the bus group to use their sanctioned restaurant called the frantic chef. Which may be great.... Who knows. But not wanting to take a chance for the prices, we found vaughns, 3min walk, and Got the seafood chowder and fish and chips for lunch and were incredibly impressed. Served in less than 10mins. Cozy and quiet vs cattle buffet money grab. Go here for bus tour lunch!

Update 25. Thank god my last coupe of visits have been excellent. I've accepted the prices have doubled and the staff have changed but overall this place is pumping out great food, drink and service, just check the prices before hand if you're price sensitive. But checking my 2020 review the menu hasn't changed! 😆 Update 24 A few years ago, this used to be excellent and 5 stars (see original review below) but it just gets 4 now, at best. I've been a handful of times more recently and the magic has gone. They seem to have made a big push for US tourists and golf groups. The prices have gone up considerably, the service has gone down hill - they seem to have lost the charming chatty locals and now have younger inexperienced waitresses who need better training - unfortunately this is probably a challenge of running somewhere like here. The menu has hardly changed and I don't think the food is as good as it was. Prices going up and quality going down is the wrong direction but it remains good overall, just not the great it used to be. Original review 2020 Excellent! We went twice over a weekend, once for dinner and then returned for lunch. I'd have gone again if they had space but they were full. The Vietnamese oysters, black pudding/foi gras starter and fish and chips were the highlights for me. Lovely staff too.

I had eaten there previously on a golf trip, which was excellent. We were on vacation when we visited. We did make a reservation. The restaurant was not crowded but we were given a table next to the kitchen door. We weren’t told specials as we other tables were. Food was OK as was service. I sensed it was because we were from the US.

We were recently in Vaughans for a family dinner during a family break in Clare - 8 people over 3 generations - it’s not our 1st time here ! We came back for more having had a super meal here a couple of years ago - the menu is predominantly fish .. but steak on the menu too. We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 courses - the scallops were delicious and the monkfish, halibut & steak deserve a special mention too. All delicious - Spoonies Icecream on the desert menu with yuzu caramel was a firm favourite- service was very efficient but not the friendliest waiter - a smile here or there would not have went a stray ! But that is our only criticism. We thoroughly enjoyed & highly recommend this spot for dinner.
