Whartons fish & chips in Bantry legal town

Tried this place today. Absolutely spotless. Cleanest fish shop I have ever seen. Local food made with heart. Girls are salt of the earth and happy to chat if they aren't busy. Tasty food and girl who served me. Well done. And real tarta sauce.

Food was excellent. Was a little concerned after reading other reviews about service and staff. While they were the friendliest the food was fast and tasty. CASH ONLY. Seeing the reviews and that it was cash only made it worth giving a try as there had to be some reason they are still in business.

We went here for late lunch today. Our initial thoughts were that it was quite pricey but we all wanted chippy and some local shop owners said the food was really good so decided to just have it. We were ordering for 2 adults and a child with a really good appetite. We ordered a childs sausage (was a jumbo sausage) and chips, 2 x fish chips and peas, chicken tenders (5) a sausage and curry sauce. Firstly the portions are massive. Each fish chips and peas meal was enough for 2 adults atleast. I added a third if my fish to the childs sausage meal and she also had a chicken tender. We ate until we were full and took the rest home and had it for dinner. We still couldnt finish all the food. The fish was battered and cooked fresh to order as were the chips. The batter was light and crispy. The fish perfectly cooked. Chips were also perfect. Crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The chicken tenders were so good. Fresh fillets of chicken in a nice seasoned southern style batter. Curry sauce was good just like chinese curry sauce. So having eaten at whartons chip shop my initial thoughts of expensive were completely wrong given the abundance of food you get for ypur money and Im so happy that i decided to try their food because its some of the nicest fish and chips ive ever eaten and i highly recommend it. Also the owner is such a lovely friendly welcoming lady. Wish I lived close enough to eat here more
