05/07/2025: Can't find much fault here.Food 5 stars, service and atmosphere not. I have given 5 stars to all 3 categories on my rating because I feel this place is worthy of 5 stars despite its less than 5 star delivery on service and atmosphere.
The menu here was beautiful, every single dish was great. From the in-house charcuterie, the wild and foraged ingredients to the superb treatment of said larder, brilliant.
Wine list was small but wine pairing was excellently judged.
Negatives, not much really, nitpicking at best and definitely circumstantial.Atmosphere is very hushed and we found ourselves whispering mostly and service is compromised by the fact that as far we could tell (which may be incorrect) there were only 4 staff in the restaurant full stop (kitchen,waiting, front of house etc).
So in conclusion if all you are interested in is beautiful food check this place out it is superb.
02/07/2025: Had the full tasting menu (no wine pairing), thought everything was good but not great. I would expect to have a few stand out dishes that you walk away talking about but really nothing was memorable. Considering the price I expected better. Service was great though - attentive but not stuffy. Atmosphere was a little bland and quiet - maybe we just caught it on a slow night. Definitely one of the best restaurants in the area but if comparing to bigger cities in Ireland, it’s not a standout for me.

03/12/2024: The woman who runs Hudson's now is unfriendly, rude, and can be quite unpleasant sometimes. The prices are high, it is hard to find things, and in my experience they nearly always round the price up to the nearest 10¢, never down.
I suggest instead Organico in Bantry or Goodness Foods in Skibbereen, both of which have pleasant staff and which I can recommend.
UPDATE December 2024:
It now has a new owner so is worth checking out again! I will report here once I have any more info.

07/05/2025: What can I tell you about this place that the walls won't tell. This restaurant is an epitome of the struggles, highs and lows of a family business who have paved their way to make it.
I had chips, battered sausage and a home made chicken fillet burger. Sensible choices i should say. While my friends made their own options (not entirely wise :D). I found the prices really competitive and economical and a better burger than Ballybia.
The service was exceptional and is cut from a different cloth that you don't find in our generation. Sure it isn't a high dine and it might take a while on a mental weekend but that was never the expectation either.
The stories that we got to hear and your warmth truly left us a lasting impression.
One thing I say is money can't buy history, culture or tradition and this place checks all three. Thank you for feeding us and your tips on getting a stain removed from a white top.
We'll definitely stop by the next time we're in Ballydehog.
