Glenlo Abbey Hotel & Estate
Galway
11/05/2025: Glenlo Abbey is in a beautiful location. However, it definitely needs further development. The prices are absolutely exaggerated. If we had stayed at Ashford Castle or Adare Manor, it would have made sense because the prices are nearly the same. The only attractive feature of Glenlo is the Pullman Restaurant. Other than that, it doesn’t have much appeal.
If you visit Glenlo and stay at the lodge, be aware that there are no slippers or coffee machine provided in the rooms. There is a kettle in the room, but if you want to use it, you need to plug it into the socket by your bedside lamp because there isn't even an electrical outlet where the kettle is placed. Also, you can't properly adjust the room temperature — your room will be cold at night.
Unfortunately, I have to say it was a disappointment. I definitely do not recommend staying here. A visit to the Pullman Restaurant and having dinner there will be more than enough. Although, to be honest, the Pullman Restaurant's menu is also overpriced and the food wasn’t particularly tasty either.
11/05/2025: A little outside of town, but beautiful grounds and stunning views with the smell of a fire in the fireplace.
If you decide to stay here, make sure to stop in at the cocktail bar with Liam and Marie. Liam has expert whisky recommendations and they both have genuinely delectable cocktail skills. They make artisan cocktails and the joy they exhibit in providing service makes you want to spend time with them both. The only issue is the irritation you feel knowing when you get back home, you won't be able to replicate what they do!
Breakfast was delicious. Do yourself a favor and take 30 minutes to walk through the beautiful golf course down to the jetty to sit, relax and watch the the water.
