Il Colosseo

Athlone
15/08/2026: Dined here on a Friday night at 6:30 and the place was packed with people which generally suggests good food however I was misled, we were firstly seated in a room with two big groups and we were the only table of two in a very noisy environment but still gave the food the benefit of the doubt we ordered garlic mushrooms and fired Brie to start not the most Italian authentic starters for choice but we were presented with shop frozen starters with cheap sauce , then onto the mains seafood risotto and bolognaise and to say they were most flavourless mains I have ever come across and not even served in a decent tomato sauce. Service was decent.
12/08/2026: As always an absolutely fantastic meal with excellent warm service! One of the specials was lobster at a brilliant price had to indulge and did not regret! There is something for everyone on their menu and they can do gluten free meals just ask the helpful knowledgeable wait staff and they will explain your options (lots!!). I would highly recommend this lovely place

Di Bella

24/07/2026: Really tasty meal, had the garlic mushrooms in creamy sauce... delicious and mains was cajun chicken, penne pasta and sauce. Good value and staff very friendly
24/07/2026: Our meal at DiBella was the last one of our two-week trip to Ireland, and by far the worst experience we had. We were disappointed for several reasons: - The dining room on the ground floor is really soulless. It feels more like a school cafeteria than a restaurant, and the tables are packed so closely together. - The gentleman (owner? manager?) was very cold and unfriendly. Fortunately, the young waitress was much more pleasant and made up for it. - No complimentary tap water was available, unlike everywhere else we ate in Ireland. Instead, we had to pay €4.50 for a small plastic bottle of water. - A 10% service charge was automatically added to the bill, whereas in every other restaurant we visited, tips were left at the customer's discretion. In this case, the service clearly didn't deserve an extra 10%. On top of that, I later noticed that the gentleman had accidentally transposed two digits when entering the amount into the payment terminal (fortunately, the overcharge wasn't significant). - And the final blow came later that day. While we were on our flight home, our daughter started vomiting. She was sick four times during the 90-minute flight, then another eight or nine times that evening, along with diarrhoea. As soon as we got home, we took her to the emergency department, where the doctor confirmed that she was suffering from food poisoning. Our daughter was the only one who ate something different from the rest of us. Overall, it was a very disappointing and upsetting experience. On the positive side, the pizzas were good. We certainly cannot recommend this restaurant.
