If I could give NO STARs I would..
..deeply unsettling stay in Room 107. It is not a guest room!; it is an elite, endurance test designed to shatter your spirit and forge mental toughness.
The Cryogenic Solitude:
The management has thoughtfully curated a biting, sub-zero indoor climate. To ensure guests fully immerse themselves in the deep-freeze experience, they completely decommissioned our radiator and displayed it in the hallway like a modern art installation. The dampness is so absolute you don't just breathe the air—you wear it.
Elite Concierge Service:
The hotel staff have masterfully achieved a state of total, meditative silence by completely ignoring our requests. The room was never cleaned throughout our stay, bed-sheets dirty, no clean cups, no hoovering, no dusting, etc. ensuring our environment remained completely untouched by the burdens of modern civilization.
The DIY Engineering Challenge:
The shower drain was missing its primary filter mechanism, threatening an immediate, indoor flash flood. Luckily, we were able to save the entire wing from destruction by engineering a custom water-routing system using a teaspoon. It really brings a rustic, survivalist, Tom Hanks in Cast Away energy to your morning routine.
The Detention Special:
Navigating the older wing is a mental puzzle. The architecture is a genuine labyrinth, paying a homage to the site's 1920s history as a fortified wartime detention facility. It has held onto that exact violent, oppressive energy.
The Advanced Entertainment Package:
The in-room TV proudly offered a state-of-the-art "interactive grey screen" experience. It absolutely refused to show any channels, it could only be turned ''ON'' and ''OFF''.
If you decided to look out the window instead: The windows of the hotel room overlooked onto a graveyard..
The Culinary and Leisure Amenities:
The restaurant serves food so completely devoid of flavour.. Afterward, you can unwind in the swimming pool, which features a distinct, unmistakable toilet aroma and a floating biohazard that I can only describe as an uninvited, highly organic swimming companion.
In conclusion, this stay wasn't a vacation—it was a total, multi-level nightmare masquerading as a hotel booking.
The Royal Bray has achieved a spectacular masterclass in negative hospitality. Got no sleep throughout the stay.
I can never, in good conscience, recommend that a single living soul ever cross this threshold. Avoid this entire property at all costs, unless you have actively budgeted to pay actual money for a historical, dark and atmospheric hostage situation.

17/09/2026: Ordered food for collection and was told it would be ready in 10 minutes. Ended up waiting an extra 20 minutes in the shop with no update or apology for the delay. To make things worse, the woman serving me was rude throughout — no acknowledgement of the wait, just poor attitude. If you're going to quote a collection time, either stick to it or communicate delays properly. Won't be ordering again.
13/09/2026: Should have known not to order from a chain endorsed by Conor Ryan but ordered a “Savage Spice Bag” from JustEat for delivery. Delivery was avg time, fair enough.
Bag weighed nearly a kg so I thought happy days but it was just all chips. About 4 pieces of chicken and a single chicken ball. Far too much seasoning, an overpowering amount of dried chillies.
Rip off for €14.50 , far better value elsewhere in Bray. Avoid.

28/06/2026: I ordered a portion of onion rings for 3.50 and got a huge handful of chips and 6 large onion rings!! 3.50 for comparison this same meal cost 8.50 in Dalkey.
€3.50 what a chipper

01/01/2026: We ordered a Chinese at 9:20 and they delivered to the wrong address , the lady who received the order rang us and told us that they received our order. We rang again and told them we want our food and they told us they’d make us a fresh order then they attempted to go back to the house and try get the food that was already delivered . This is extremely poor service we had to ring again and tell them that we’ve been waiting 2 hours and they were saying it’s not our problem: this is ridiculous.

08/03/2025: Paddy was our chief for the evening.
I started with the King Prawns and knew the rest of the courses were going to be great but I didn’t expect what was coming next.
The beef was the most tender I have ever been served. Absolutely delicious.
With a sitting for 8, everyone raves about their meals as much as I did.
The restaurant is beautifully decorated and spacious with a super staff and very efficient service.
5 Stars for sure.

11/10/2025: First of all, the service is AMAZING. The waiter was so sweet! He made little silly jokes like 'I got your fish fresh from the sea' and 'I got the seashells at the beach for ya'. Defo recommend coming here.

she was forgetting multiple people's orders in line too. Didnt seem trained shouldnt be left alone in the stall to mess up everyones orders
30/08/2024: We need this chippie where I live. Fast, cheap, convenient and very very tasty. Best fish & chips in a very long time. The lady who served us was very accommodating and the nicest. Cod & chips and bread & butter on a bench watching the sea. Wonderful

15/02/2025: I cannot express how disappointed I am with my experience at Elephant and Castle. What was supposed to be a romantic Valentine's Day dinner turned into an absolute nightmare. From the moment we walked in, the staff greeted us with hostility, setting the tone for the rest of the evening.
When I mentioned I wasn’t sure what to order yet, the server rolled their eyes at me—an incredibly rude and unprofessional gesture. They then barked, “What ye want?” in a tone that made me feel like an inconvenience rather than a guest. This was not the warm, welcoming atmosphere I expected, especially on a special occasion like Valentine’s Day.
The service only got worse from there. We were completely ignored throughout our meal, making it impossible to order more drinks or even get the attention of the staff when we needed something. To make matters worse, I witnessed something utterly appalling: a staff member took drinks off a table after the customers said they weren’t the right ones, and then proceeded to serve those same drinks to another table. I was horrified to see the couple at that table take a sip, completely unaware of what had just happened. This level of unhygienic and unethical behavior is unacceptable.
This rudeness was experienced by many as I spoke to fellow guests who also complained and felt the same way
The entire experience was embarrassing and frustrating. I would never recommend Elephant and Castle to anyone, especially not for a special occasion. Save yourself the disappointment and dine elsewhere. This place is a complete letdown

04/08/2025: This place is nice, and the food and coffee are great. However, the only thing that really lets it down is the customer service.
It felt like the staff assumed that because the shop is busy, they don't need to be polite or accommodating. While I was sitting and enjoying my coffee, I was repeatedly asked if I was finished and if they could take the cutlery. Even after I had finished and handed over my cup, I sat for a few more minutes — only to be questioned by the staff about whether I had even ordered anything. Apparently, the manager saw me sitting without a coffee on the camera and sent someone over to ask for my receipt.
The food and coffee here are amazing, but the customer service is honestly the worst I’ve ever experienced.
02/08/2025: Ante todo diré que el café está bien.
El servicio puede mejorar y la organización también.
No dejaron subir a mi mujer a la terraza de la planta superior hasta que no tenemos la consumición en la mano, y tuvimos que hacernos una hora de cola, porque en Bray había un evento de las Fuerzas Aéreas. No tiene sentido porque arriba hay gente que no está consumiendo nada desde que nos sentamos.
Precio-calidad-organización, si cabe mejorable.
