The Wicklow Heather

02/03/2025: Nice cozy spot and great after a walk around Glendalough park, the staff was really nice but the food did not leave a mark. It was just ok. Nothing particularly bad but nothing memorable either. The flavors were basic, and the presentation was standard. It’s an okay spot if you’re hungry, but not a place I’d go out of my way to visit again.
02/03/2025: The Wicklow Heather is a must for any visitors to Glendalough! It makes for the perfect stop after visiting the park; the atmosphere is cosy, welcoming, and magical! The restaurant itself is full of first edition books by famous Irish authors and other antiques that adorn its walls; you’ll never be bored dining here! They have a wonderful Irish menu with seasonal vegetables and meats, all fresh and perfectly cooked. We’ve been there each time we visit and are never disappointed!

16/03/2025: Traditional delicious Irish food with amazing staff. Biggest thanks to the host Caroline who managed our family group today.
16/03/2025: First of all, I’d like to say that we gave this place two chances before writing this review, so it is not based on a single bad experience. The main issue here is poor management. Both times, the manager seemed to be in such a rush that she came across as quite rude. Guests don’t care if the restaurant is busy—I know this very well because I worked in restaurants for two and a half years, including one year as an assistant manager. There was no politeness, no friendliness, just constant apologies and excuses like, “It’s one of those days.” Mind you, she said the exact same thing on both visits. Every day is “one of those days”? On our second visit, we had a reservation for 3:00 PM. We arrived at 2:55, yet we weren’t seated until around 3:20 (or later). Again, this shows poor management of table turnover. Once we were seated, we experienced a series of order mix-ups. On our first visit, our drinks were initially delivered to the wrong table. When we pointed out the mistake, the bartender admitted, “Someone messed up the table numbers, my apologies.” Fair enough, mistakes happen. But then, our starters were also sent to the wrong table. The guests had already started eating them before someone realized the mix-up, as their actual starters were completely different. This meant our starters had to be remade, delaying our meal. We hoped that at least our mains would be handled correctly. Guess what? A waitress was about to deliver our mains to the wrong table again—until another waitress stepped in and corrected her just in time. Both visits were stressful, all because the manager doesn’t know how to manage time, hire enough staff, or properly train the team to handle mistakes efficiently. That said, I have to be honest about the food: it was flawless. My compliments to the chefs! From the seafood chowder to the half duck, the burger, and both desserts we tried—everything was absolutely delicious. In fact, the food on our first visit was the only reason we gave the place a second chance. No regrets, because we enjoyed our meals, but if this restaurant wants to maintain its high standards, the manager needs to be replaced ASAP
