The Wicklow Heather in Laragh

We visited Wicklow Heather Restaurant yesterday for a birthday dinner. The staff were super friendly from arrival, and checked in on refills for drinks (and gravy!) Lovely traditional Irish food. Between us we had the seafood chowder, leg of lamb, duck breast, Turkey & Ham and lamb stew. Portion sizes were generous and we left absolutely stuffed! We were also offered complimentary Irish liquer as we were celebrating a birthday, which was a nice touch. Also shown the impressive collection of first and limited edition books, including Dracula! Full Irish breakfast was luke warm at best.

The food and atmosphere of the restaurant are just average but the service was severely disappointing. we waited about 15 minutes to be seated, not because the restaurant was busy, but simply because there was nobody at the desk. When we were finally seated, we waited another 15-20 minutes just for someone to come to our table. At this point we had come up with the conclusion that this was going to take a while, we ordered right away. They proceeded to take AN HOUR to get our food. people who arrived at the restaurant a half hour before us got their food before we did. when we asked about the food we got a two worded response. overall I was very dissatisfied by this restaurant and the service.

Dropped in for early dinner yesterday just before 4pm. Husband had lamb stew which he said was lovely. I had chowder and a side of chips. Very little fish to be found in the chowder. The consistency was very thick and it tasted very cheesy. I've never had cheesy chowder before. I was hungry so late it, but wouldn't order again. Chips were fab though.

Best dinner of our 10 day roadtrip. Highly recommend the stew. Such a unique spot too, ask to see their incredible collection of first edition books!

We had Easter Sunday dinner there and it was delicious, they were very busy but they had lots of staff on duty so no delays in service.

Welcomed like kings, politeness everywhere all the time, in short it's great, the service was very fast and what's more, the portions were generous! I recommend !!

Dropped in here after a long walk around Glendalough and we were honestly blown away in the best possible way! The staff were so friendly, but the food was just amazing! We just had starters and desserts (apple and berry crumble and the fudge brownie) and I can honestly say they were both the best desserts we’ve ever had! They have a new pastry chef and he is obviously doing a wonderful job! We are looking forward to returning already to try everything on the dessert menu!! Thanks you for a wonderful evening!

A beautiful place to stop and taste a typical Irish dish, the attention from all the waiters was perfect
