A very good restaurant but not a great Michelin star The food is definitely very tasty and the usage of local product is brilliant, the different meals were a showcase of how tasty Irish ingredients are. When we arrived we were asked if we wanted some champagne to start, which we accepted. The food started to arrive before we even received our glasses of Champagne, this was the first time in such a restaurant that I couldn't drink the cup of champagne in peace before food starts to be served As soon as we finished a meal the next one appeared on our table, there was no time to breath or enjoy the atmosphere because there seems to be a rush to get the meal over Once we arrived at the desert we could see the staff in the kitchen in their changed clothes waiting for us to leave which we felt invited to as the bill was given as soon as we finished eating. The waiter was also quite insistant in showing us the different tip option and looking at which one was chosen Compared to the other Michelin star restaurants I've been to around the world, this one probably had the poorest service. Normally time seems to freeze as you enjoy incredible food, in Aniar time was definitely going and that spark which you usually find in such restaurant was missing. It is a shame that such great food was served in the same atmosphere as my local pizza place If you are used to Michelin star restaurant or if you are trying to have a once in a lifetime experience you should skip Aniar however if your goal is simply to taste the best West Ireland has to other without caring about the service then this is the place for you, just book early

International staff serve up local produce in this innovative and classy restaurant. The wine pairings are of particular note. This is the closest I've come to food and wine being perfectly matched. Whoever is responsible for it, your palate and ability to pair strikingly similar flavour notes is quite remarkable. The fitout is modern. The attitude, comforting. Aniar is well worth a visit to experience for yourself.

It's fortunate to have a great young Italian professional in the kitchen!!! That said, not having an updated menu, not notifying the customer, and bringing all the wrong wines with the wrong labels and vintages is unacceptable!!! Embarrassing service—absolutely not for a starred restaurant!!! And I've been to Michelin-starred restaurants in Italy and abroad, and I've never had such service and food...gourmet perhaps, but not Michelin-starred.

We had a wonderful dinner at Aniar. The service was very thoughtful and friendly and the food was delicious. The night we dined, we had 24 courses and they were all delicious and celebrated Irish food and produce. The food was always beautifully presented and the staff gave wonderful explanations of the food. We got lucky and happened to be dining when Chef JP was working so he actually served us some of our dishes and chatted with us at the end of the meal. He was super friendly and we really appreciated the time he spent talking to us. He also recommended his other two more causal restaurants: Cava Bodega and Kombu. Although we had so many courses which featured a lot of fresh seafood like langoustines, oysters, shrimp, smoked salmon, and mackerel, some highlights include: Irish brown bread with 3 different seeds served with butter A potato dish with spelt, mushroom ragu, topped with potato foam and potato skin tuile served with potato bread Oyster ice cream served in an edible tempura shell Duck with beets & grilled duck heart Aerated blue cheese & fig jam Blackberry sorbet with pickled blackberries The final dessert was a really unique collection of petit fours and I really enjoyed the pate de fruit (apple), torched lavender marshmallow, and miso fudge. We were also sent home with some oat cookies too. The Michelin star is well earned. Definitely come here to enjoy some fine dining in Galway.

Mcginn's Hop House

26/10/2025: This place was so good we went back a second time while in Galway. We had the Irish Rib Steak Sandwich both times and the taste and flavor were spot-on. Prices were reasonable. Only thing they didn’t have was music but the good and drinks make up for that.
12/09/2025: Huge selection of on tap beers. Sorry Dave they don't have fosters anymore. Place is clean and service prompt. Average about 6euro a pint.
