What a pub ! The keg under the bar, the Stout is cream, Mick himself is a gentleman, the epitome of hospitality, brings out snacks for the customers, makes welcome and warm conversation. A joy to visit, I shall return !

You'll never experience a better bar than this. Great craic had by all before and after Dubs game. Great pints and great wit on both sides of the bar. This is what all Irish pubs should be like. Mick and the lads behind the bar love the craic. Don't be shy, be respectful and think on your feet, and you might even get one on the house. Definitely worth many more return trips. One of the highlights in Castlebar. Cash is đź‘‘

20/03/2026: It's rare I write reviews but I had to on this occasion given how amazing everything was there last night at the house of plates. Went to house of plates last night for my birthday for a 3 course meal and I cannot praise the food and service enough. 10/10 experience. The food and flavours were sensational just mouth watering. The service was amazing and professional and friendly and there were no time delays with any of the dishes. Also loved the little complimentary starters that were given before our own starters came such as the bread with the beautiful oil and balsamic vinegar. Also the presentation of each dish was beautiful and thoughtfully put together. Thanks for an amazing experience we will be back <3 Páraic and Laura

12/10/2025: Had breakfast here yesterday. Really gorgeous. Service very quick even though it was busy. 3 of us left there full and very happy. Looking forward to a return visit
18/09/2025: What a gem of a place, we’d been to the Deli the day before and bought some granola and flour, and had a take out coffee, so we were really looking forward to a late breakfast at Café Rua. First impressions were a fantastic welcome and real friendly people, nothing sham or pretend here. What a great menu, absolutely something for all tastes and dietary requirements. The chorizo, spinach and sautéed potatoes, topped with 2 perfectly poached eggs and accompanied with chilli relish was excellent. Real fresh orange juice was delightful, and the coffee? Epic! What a fabulous way to spend time being looked after in one of the best cafés I’ve visited.
