Flanagan's on the Lake in Ballina

Whenever I visit during the summer, I always make sure to stop by Flanagan’s on the Lake in Ballina Quay, Tipperary, Ireland. It's such a lovely restaurant — the food is always delicious, and the view of the lake makes the experience even more special. The staff are really nice and welcoming, which adds to the overall great experience. I absolutely loved the salad — fresh leafy greens with sweet roasted pecans, creamy goat cheese, beetroot, and their own in-house dressing. It’s simple, but the flavors are so well balanced and refreshing. A real standout! Another highlight was the garlic and cheese pizza with a gluten-free base. It was perfectly crispy and packed with flavor — a real treat! The roast beef was incredibly tender, served warm with a rich, flavorful sauce and perfectly cooked vegetables — not overdone, just right. And the desserts! The mango and yuku cream brûlée was light and delicious. I also enjoyed the apple crumble served with custard, ice cream, and fresh fruits — comforting and so satisfying. Highly recommend this place if you're in the area — great food, friendly staff, and a beautiful lakeside view!

We enjoyed the atmosphere, the food but especially the very friendly girl who served us. She clearly enjoyed her work and thought along when we asked for a Spanish coffee. She really went out of her way to make it even though it wasn't on the menu. The other staff was also friendly. The food was fresh and of good quality. This restaurant is recommended.

What a place and what a service. Maureen was a star. Nothing too much. The bar never seems dated. Check out the top shelves for some really interesting whiskey options. Then talk to the barmen for the cask whiskey be guided by them, some really nice tots. The food was well prepared and presented. Relax enjoy the views of lough Derg, the cruise boats come and go. They're almost always full so book ahead and whilst you wait enjoy Flannigans on the lake. Update 13/05/25. lunch again on a fine sunny midweek day and once again not dissapointed. Nice beer and tasty wine along with a soup of the day plus fish (nice fresh battered hake) and chips. So enjoyable. Lots of people out and about from locals to the bus loads of tourists. All catered for seamlessly. Great staff lots of chat with lots of local knowledge. This place has really good views, atmosphere and great produce. Back again soon.

Have to say the food was excellent, staff have a great sense of humour., I would highly recommend it.

Dined here today while in the area with my family as seen it had strong positive reviews, however I was surprised and could not understand how it did. First of all Had to ask for a napkin to clean the table we sat at myself as was destroyed in milk and bits of food from previous people. Menu was poor and lacked variety to in my opinion. Settled for the €20 “fish and chips” with tartar sauce. Which unfortunately was very poor quality all round, certainly would not recommend anyone get that if dining here. Battered Fish itself was not good and the tartar sauce was questionable, someone needs to learn how to make tartar sauce properly. For the €18 spent on the pizza it was terrible also. For a restaurant in such a lovely area it quality of food certainly does not match its surroundings. Don’t want to sound completely negative, but only good part of the dining was the service of food was fast. And the waitress was nice and mannerly.

We had a nice lunch here yesterday. Had the wings, which were nice and a beef burger and a chicken burger, which were really good. Staff and service were efficient and friendly.

We had a lovely meal in Flanagans last week. Mark served us and gave us alot of help and suggestions while we were choosing the food. The food was excellent and we look forward to eating there again. Service was very good. The whole experience was relaxing and friendly. When paying we met Trevor and once again had a great chat with him.
