Ghan House in Carlingford

I went with my friend for his birthday 🎂

After staying at the Ghan House in October 2024, we decided to have our wedding party there: We had our wedding at Ghan House with 70 guests on a Friday in early September 2025, and we honestly couldn’t have chosen a better venue. From the very beginning, communication during planning – and on the day itself – was excellent. The team was incredibly accommodating and made all of our requests and wishes possible in a reasonable and professional way. The service and staff were outstanding, including impeccable time keeping on the day. Everything ran smoothly, allowing us to fully enjoy ourselves. The venue itself is stunning – the house and garden are beautiful and create such a special atmosphere. Ghan House really feels like a sanctuary right in the centre of Carlingford, which is especially valuable on busy weekends when the town can turn into a crazy stag-party hotspot. One huge plus was that all guests could stay within walking distance, and it’s also just a short walk to St. Michael’s Church, which made logistics incredibly easy. The location is ideal for activities the day before or after the wedding – we enjoyed a hike to Slieve Foye, sauna time at Hot Box, golfing, and even joining the stag-party chaos at PJ’s for those who wanted it. The venue has a real house-party vibe, with different rooms to move between (bar room, fireplace room, etc.), which our guests absolutely loved. We received so many compliments on the atmosphere – everyone had an amazing time. Food was another highlight: very good quality, with excellent vegetarian and vegan options (plenty and well thought out). We chose the buffet, with starters and desserts served, which worked perfectly. The breakfast the next morning was also amazing. Also we were able to bring our own wine (for a corkage fee). In short: don’t hesitate – book it!! Ghan House exceeded all our expectations and gave us a wedding day we (and our guests) will never forget. Lovely food, very accommodating to food allergies. Rooms gorgeous, perfect for a quiet escape and a 2 min walk into Carlingford.

I booked Ghan House to celebrate my 70th birthday. We had a brilliant time there. My family stayed on Friday and Saturday nights and we had all our guests there on Saturday night. The rooms are beautiful, the food was amazing, Paul, Claire and Orla did everything to make our stay memorable. I would strongly recommend Ghan House for any family occasion.

Went here for dinner with my wife in August. Best meal we've had in a while. Very relaxing pre dinner drink in the bar area while perus the menu. Then had a very nice meal. Starters of ham hoc terrine and crab creme brulee were fab. Then I had the lamb which was the tastiest and most tender I've ever had. My wife had the fish dish which was a very decent size and she thoroughly enjoyed it. Very good wine list but unfortunately could only try one as I was driving. We will most certainly return.
