Jacobs Cottage in Kilkenny

While the hotel is very beautiful, it feels like they rely on their historic charm over actually providing premium products. We booked our room through a third party (which may have led to some of the issues) but we did not get the room we booked. We paid for a King, but got a Full and a Single. A married couple sleeping on the full was less than spacious. The mattress was beyond hard, my spouse and I woke up with shoulder and hip pain all night. There were no outlets by the headboard to plug in electronics. The tv in the room was very small and dated. The bathroom tub wasn’t angled properly, resulting in you standing in water your entire shower. The bathroom toiletries appeared to be watered down, as they were very runny. The bathroom towels were very thin, but did the job. The hotel location was convenient, customer service was excellent, I appreciated the welcome cocktails, and the hotel was beautiful, but at the end of the day of your room is uncomfortable there’s no point in staying there.

Centrally located. Reception always staffed. Rooms were generally clean.

The bar was lovely with great service on 9/15. The tenders- buffalo style were better than the ones I had in Buffalo. Great bar- T&G ! After a mediocre experience and an awful experience in nearby restaurants it was a pleasure to have a great experience here for dinner.

Perfect central location in Kilkenny. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The building is charming. The rooms were spacious, though a bit outdated.

This hotel is probably one of the best hotels we have stayed in. It is the third hotel in this group we have stayed in. The room was amazing, comfortable, beautifully designed, clean and quiet at night. I could not fault it. The breakfast was amazing. It did not have lots of variety but what was there was very good. The porridge was very nice and I often don't like porridge. The manager was friendly and supportive of new staff and all other staff. It was clear she worked closely with them and I am sure it was valued. There was all female staff serving breakfast. We had one evening meal in Ember and it is this experience which really upset me personally and translated into three stars for me. All the staff were male who worked in the evening. It was clear that one staff member needed extra support as they must have just started working at your hotel, but during our meal he just appeared left out, ignored and overlooked by the manager. I felt for him and what it must have done for his confidence. The evening manager made limited effort to support, encourage or just make him feel included. This was in direct contrast to what happened in the morning at breakfast. Everyone needs to learn and the evening experience was a totally negative one. How can he ever learn in such an environment. If I was this man who was learning I would not return but if he does it would be good if he has a better experience from now on. I don't want to witness negative treatment of staff while I am eating or anywhere else. This impacted greatly on my overall experience.

We stayed here for two nights. It’s centrally located (3 mins walk from the Kilkenny Castle, on the main road). We had breakfast included and it was amazing with good portions. Convenient parking (paid across the street). Main cons: the room was uncomfortably warm (3rd floor) due to broken AC. Unable to open windows more than 3 inches and no screens. They did have a ceiling fan going and a pluggable fan available in the room. Overall, we would recommend staying here for its well priced location.
