Staying and dining at Michael & Bridie’s was a highlight of our Ireland tour. The bar stands where cycle route Eurovelo 1 follows 5km of the most dangerous road I have ridden in Ireland. We were relieved to reach it alive, stash our bikes in the shed and drop into the shower. My memory claims I have eaten better oysters: once, sitting with a friend and a bucket of lemons and two clasp knives in a dinghy in Broken Bay in Australia. Maybe.

There are places where they serve food, and then there are places that make you feel as if you’ve just stepped into another time entirely. Keane’s is one of them. From the moment you walk in, with the old wood, the vintage stove, and the fireplace on, you feel wrapped in the warmth of a true Irish atmosphere… so authentic, soulful and comforting. It’s the kind of place where you instantly feel at home. The people who run it are wonderful: cheerful, genuine, discreet and yet incredibly welcoming. Their hospitality made of smiles and kind words feels natural and effortless, which makes the entire experience even more special. You truly feel looked after. And then there is the food. Oh wow! One word defines it perfectly: harmony. The oysters with garlic butter were divine, the garlic bread absolutely to die for and the fish dishes were cooked masterfully. The pan-seared salmon for instance was flawless, and the John Dory with citrus butter was delicate, elegant, and full of balance. Even the vegetables here deserve praise: crisp, tasty, and among the very few in Ireland that feel almost as good and delectable as the mains themselves. Everything is beautifully balanced: the seasoning, the herbs, the portions. Nothing overwhelms, nothing is excessive. Every element works together with care and intelligence. The fish is fresh. The staples are genuine. And finally, the desserts: the warm apple crumble with cream and the sherry trifle, both comforting and not too sweet, allowing the flavours to truly come up. This is one of those rare places that stays with you after you leave… the kind of place that makes you want to come back again and again.

30/06/2026: We spent a long weekend in Murray's the staff could not do enough for us. The rooms are so spacious and recently refurbished. The food and music was great , I cannot wait to return next year.
10/06/2026: this gem of a place we continue to return to. Super location, staff, facilities... just all in all good all round. Cannot recommend highly enough.... and it was raining the last time we were there but still wonderful. The team are so warm and welcoming, just like the island.
