La Trattoria in Kilkenny

Decided off the cuff to try this restaurant about 8pm on Sunday evening, 11th Feb. Staff very welcoming and polite. Menu has a great selection of starters, anti pasta, seconds/mains and deserts. We didn't have want a big meal, so just olives to start. I ordered a veal dish, with Italian potatoes and vegetables. My wife ordered a pasta dish, with meat and tomato sauce. The veal, with a deep, rich, mushroom sauce, was blissful. Indulgence at its best. Potatoes and vegetables, perfect. The pasta was also excellent. To go with the food, we ordered a bottle of Chianti classico, full bodied and very reasonably priced. Service was perfect, unfussy, polite and responsive. When leaving, we had a good chat with the owner, he's also head chef. Amazing how difficult it is for restraunts to survive, with increased VAT, and cost of supplies doubling in recent years. Credit to him and his staff. I hope he survives. Would highly recommend , and will return.

Had a great dinner with starters mains and dessert very happy with all service provided was very good and didn't break the bank.

Hadn't been to this restaurant in years but every time I passed it was busy so decided to meet a friend there for dinner recently. The menu is really varied with plenty of pasta and pizza options. We both opted for pasta dishes and they were absolutely amazing. Great portion sizes - not too big but not too small either. We will certainly be back for more hearty, authentic Italian food and would encourage locals and tourists visiting Kilkenny, to pop in!

Very good place where you eat very good pizzas and different Italian dishes

Fantastic food, service and wine which Is appropriately priced. Unless you have a pint, nearly Eight euro honestly felt I was in Dublin or Paris paying for it, but don’t be put off by this, go for the food and the wine don’t ask for a pint. Unless you want to pay that price.

The owner and his wife were wonderful, super friendly and willing to explain any dishes. Very authentic and delicious food and the garlic bread is amazing!
