Poacher Restaurant in Ballina

A great find in Ballina, food was good, service great.

​I know the name "Poacher's" makes it ironic, but I honestly couldn't recommend them highly enough for their incredible vegan options!

I recommend making a reservation. I was served because I was alone and it was early, but it quickly filled up. The service was fantastic; they took great care of me. The starters... In my opinion, I didn't like them at all. 12 euros wasted. The salmon pâté wasn't bad, but the best part was the butter that came with it. Then I ordered another starter whose name I can't remember, but it had "caviar" on it, and it wasn't caviar; it was lumpfish roe. It looked like a crème brûlée with the roe sprinkled on top as decoration. It wasn't amazing for the price. The sirloin steak was exquisite, and it came with a spectacular pulled beef cannelloni. I could have eaten two hundred of them. The chocolate cake was delicious, but the crispy cookie decoration was burnt and tasted burnt. The red wine list... It could be improved. I don't like Argentinian or Chilean wines, they hardly have any Spanish ones, and the French wine was excellent. I spent 74 euros by myself, which I think is reasonable. The meat was spectacular, but the starters were a shame. Yes, I would go back, but it's not amazing.

We made a good decision to pick this restaurant after our visit of the Downpatrick Head. Delicious meals, good quality of meat. Recommend

The staff is really friendly and the food excellent. I ordered a starter, main course and dessert from the vegan menu. The cocktails are very good as well

Delicious food. Especially the sika deer and sweet potato fries.

A fine dining restaurant located upstairs, keep an eye out for the sign and door. A tastefully decorated restaurant with spacious seating arrangements. The staff were friendly and attentive. The service was seamless, us being a table of 15. I opted for a soup starter, chicken main and an espresso martini to end my meal. All of the food and drink was impeccable. I'm gutted I didn't get the beef dish as it looked (and tasted after eating a bit of my wife's) amazing.
