It’s a chipper with a place to eat in also (but served in takeaway packing). To say there is a restaurant is an exaggeration. The fish is good and the place is spotless. €40 for 2 fish and chips …. I won’t be back.

If you are looking for a spot that takes coastal comfort food seriously, Saltee Chipper in the picturesque fishing village of Kilmore Quay is a remarkable hidden gem, serving what genuinely feels like some of the best fish and chips in the entire country.
They understand that the secret to extraordinary seafood is to keep things simple. The classic fish and chips are outstanding, featuring a perfectly crisp, golden batter and fresh fish that never feels greasy or heavy. Beyond the traditional order, the prawn scampi is equally excellent—wonderfully tender, full of fresh coastal flavor, and prepared with the exact same level of high-standard. You can always count on the quality being completely consistent every single time you visit.
The experience is made even better by the staff, who are exceptionally kind, welcoming, and fast on their feet despite the steady stream of customers.
The only practical warning to keep in mind concerns your choice of dining spot: if you decide to enjoy your meal outdoors by the harbor, keep a very watchful eye on your food. The seagulls are remarkably bold and every bit as enthusiastic about the food as you are!
Final Verdict: An absolute coastal treasure. Between the incredible scampi, world-class fish and chips, and warm local hospitality, it is an essential stop.

** VERY TASTY **
Weather was fabulous the day we visited so we ate outside and therefore cannot comment on the interior restaurant.
The place was busy which is a good sign and the staff were very friendly and chatty, which is always an added bonus.
We both had the beer battered haddock and chips which came with a good portion of tartare sauce and mush peas. Food was very tasty and portions were adequate, though pricey at €18 each! Nevertheless, we would eat here again and will definitely return.
