Shipmates in Ardmore

Mixed bag. The Chicken Spice box was pathetic and nothing like described; like a kids’ meal of frozen chicken nuggets. The taco chips were good enough, and at €9.50 a fair enough price considering usual prices

Really good chips and scampi. Proper home made chips. Such a pity the staff don’t ask if you want salt or vinegar on your takeaway ! Or provide homemade tartar sauce. Only realised when we had gotten back to beach the chips weren’t salted and disappointed!

There are pubs that simply serve good food, and then there are places like Shipmates in Ardmore that quietly remind you why dining out can be such a pleasure. Warm, intimate and wonderfully cosy, it has the sort of welcoming atmosphere that encourages you to linger just a little longer over every course. The kitchen displays a genuine respect for its ingredients, allowing fresh local produce to shine without unnecessary embellishment. Every dish arrives beautifully presented, thoughtfully balanced and bursting with flavour, reflecting both confidence and care. From the first mouthful to the last, the quality is unmistakable. What elevates Shipmates beyond the excellent food is the feeling it leaves you with. It’s the kind of place that combines the comfort of a favourite local pub with the standards of fine dining, making every guest feel genuinely welcome. In a village already blessed with spectacular coastal scenery, Shipmates is a destination in its own right and one I would happily return to again and again.

I came to soulmates with my friend and we were welcomed the minute we entered. Nicole met us at the door and was very friendly and polite and told us to take a seat where we would like. Toni came over and gave us the menus which had an amazing selection of options, she recommend me the chicken wrap and I was very pleased with the wrap. It was wonderful. Most of the staff were very polite but Nicole and Toni were absolutely amazing. 10/10 would recommend.

After walking along the skiffs, it was so nice to rest and have a bite to eat at this crossroads. Quick, tasty, and enjoyable.

Ordered a group order for take away. Ordered earlier in the day. Pizzas are fab (and huge and as as good cold as they are hot IYKYK)!! Chips really good and the garlic mayo is the best. Great value for money! Food traveled well!

Overall not a bad spot for a bite to eat when in Ardmore. The Smash Burger 🍔 was unreal. Very tasty and plenty of it. Only negative is that chips are not included which is rare to see for a burger. But a seriously tasty meal. The Ballycotton Catch of the Day was "okay" Chips were fine but the bread on the fish was quite heavy and took away from the fish. The sauce was delicious but the mushy peas weren't the best. So not bad but could be great with a few tweaks. Coffees were fine, couldn't say anything bad about them so all good. The service though was fairly bad. Arrived in and sat at a table, the waitress saw us but said nothing. After a while walks past us to go outside and then asks if we are okay. I ask for a food menu please and was told I can go get one from the till area. Not the friendliest encounter and felt kind of weird. So I walked over and the second waitress who was very pleasant handed me a menu from behind the counter and I ordered and paid with her so was all good. Probably wouldn't go back as it's not normal to feel unwelcome when spending money in a restaurant.

Great little spot for casual dining, portions are big and food very tasty. Busy little spot so we ordered takeaway & they kindly rang us when it was ready. We had a marinated chicken burger, large burger but perfectly filled, nothing dripped out so easy to eat. The loaded fries is a large portion and & also delicious, again the perfect amount of sauce. Dropped the teens there after surfing, they dined in & all loved it too, Will return for sure.
