Missing Nicolas Cage in Cork? You will definitely spot him in this pub! The place is very local. Has a story about the style (you can guess how often it was said) but remains exceptionally affordable. Beer of the day was 5,50 in August 2026. Not touristic yet right next to the center 👍

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ What can we say about The Friary — an absolutely brilliant spot, but the biggest credit has to go to Mike! Debbie and myself keep coming back, and Mo is genuinely one of the main reasons why. The man pulls an unbelievable pint, but it’s far more than that — it’s the welcome, the conversation, the laughs, the social side and the atmosphere he creates every time you walk through the door. When you look at where Mike has come from and the work he has put in to help build and grow the business into what it is today, he deserves massive recognition. He is an absolute credit to himself and to The Friary. People like Mike are what make a great pub. He makes customers want to come back, and that says everything. An absolute gentleman, a serious character and a huge part of what makes The Friary what it is today. From Debbie and myself — massive credit to you, Mike. Keep doing what you’re doing! 🍻👏

This is your spot if you fancy a pub quiz (reservation required), Nicholas Cage, Hawaiian shirts, and good craic. Solid beers on tap too!

In my capacity as a participant-observer evaluating the night life-economy of Cork, I formally submit this first-person review of The Friary. This specific public house is a uniquely positioned establishment that thoroughly rejects the sterile homogeneity so frequently observed within contemporary hospitality venues. Upon entering the premises, one immediately notes a profoundly characterful-interior. It operates not merely as a standard drinking establishment, but rather as a visually stimulating curation of eccentric pop cultural artefacts. The most dominant and uncompromising aesthetic-choice is, without question, the intensive Nicolas Cage theme. The interior walls function as a maximalist-shrine dedicated entirely to the sprawling cinematic-oeuvre of the aforementioned American actor. Framed portraits, vintage film-posters, and highly obscure memorabilia relentlessly plaster the visual field, generating a surreal, hyper-specific environment. This bold artistic decision might easily overwhelm a strictly traditional-patron; nevertheless, it masterfully cultivates a distinct, eccentric-atmosphere that is simultaneously bewildering and deeply harming. It provides an immediate talking- oint for all patrons. Beyond the physical-infrastructure and idiosyncratic-decor, the interpersonal dynamics of the venue require significant academic commendation. The bar staff are incredibly friendly, consistently demonstrating a rigorous standard of customer service that entirely transcends basic transactional exchanges. They proactively facilitate a welcoming environment that immediately integrates the uninitiated solo traveller into the broader social fabric of the venue. Crucially, this convivial spirit is seamlessly mirrored by the regular local clientele. The locals are remarkably gregarious, displaying a friendly nature that effectively transforms a standard beverage consumption event into a vibrant, communal experience. One is swiftly absorbed into high spirited conversations, making it virtually impossible to feel socially alienated within this highly inclusive space. When analytically synthesising these disparate elements, the absurdly brilliant Nicolas Cage iconography, the highly textured characterful architecture, alongside the overwhelmingly positive community engagement, the result is an unparalleled social experience within the broader Cork metropolitan-area. Consequently, I offer a highly polarised-recommendation, entirely contingent upon the inherent psychological disposition of the prospective visitor. You must undoubtedly come here if you genuinely wish to have a truly great-time, as the establishment is culturally-engineered for unadulterated enjoyment and joyful-absurdity. Conversely, I must forcefully advise that you absolutely do not come here if you are at all boring. Individuals requiring conventional normality, or those possessing a rigid aversion to eccentric fun, will find themselves philosophically incompatible with the prevailing ethos of this specific public-house. For the culturally adventurous consumer, however, The Friary remains an absolute mandatory destination.

Best pub in Cork, amazing staff and amazing atmosphere. Someone else here said there's a "trendy" crowd and that's putting it lightly, can guarantee you'll be sitting next to someone interesting! All craft beers but even if that's not usually your thing don't let it put you off, they're cheaper than just about every other pint in the city and if you're in over your head the staff will happily point you towards something you'll enjoy. Highly recommended!

16/08/2026: Lovely place, the portions are huge - you pay once and can feed your family a wonderful dish for a week 🤭 The menu is diverse. I personally appreciate the vegetarian options and the fact that you can change the spiciness of the dishes. Prices are reasonable for the quality and size. All the staff are very friendly and attentive. The atmosphere in general is very warm and welcoming.
