If a place is in the center of town and is clearly a tourist trap, I tend to avoid it. I admit, however, that I didn't do that with The King's Head, and for the first time, I'm glad to be one of those tourists! 🏠 VENUE | A classic Irish pub with a large room designed for beer consumption and a smaller one for food. I found it to be very well-kept down to the last detail and one of the most welcoming places in Ireland. 🚶‍♂️ STAFF | The staff are all very young, and despite the crowds, they remain calm and friendly. Well done, it's quite a challenge, but you've overcome it! 👨‍🍳 CUISINE | Classic Irish cuisine, but with a few interesting dishes to discover. We went for the oysters (special), classic fish & chips, and cake to finish. Everything is truly special and made with quality ingredients. 💶 BILL | Prices are around €30 per person for a full dinner. I'd say it's reasonable for what's on offer! I recommend it.

A quaint and welcoming location; we were drawn by the music and decided to have dinner there. The wait was about 40 minutes, but you can easily linger in the pub and have a drink, so the wait wasn't too long. Typical dinner, good food. Definitely not cheap.

5* I’m told I had an excellent time here. I’m also told I’m not to return for at least a year. Highly recommend.

It wasn't cheap, but it was absolutely delicious! Locally sourced and well-prepared, with friendly service, even if occasionally lacking.

Superb reproduction, however, it's out of its original condition. Expensive for the cuisine offered.

Fantastic pub with plenty of seating for dining or just a beer and music. It's located in a pedestrian area, and every night there are two bands that alternate and play at different times. The singers and musicians are very talented and engaging, without disturbing anyone eating or chatting. Your table is assigned by the waiter, who then oversees the service, which is performed by several very kind and helpful ladies. The food is very good; we tried the fish soup, the fresh and delicious oysters, and the mussels with a divine butter sauce. The only downside was the goat cheese meatballs, three of them, tasteless, and very expensive. The music is the highlight; we went back two nights in a row—they were excellent.

Had to wait 15 mins for a table but it's worth it. I had an artisan seafood platter as a main and wasn't dissapointed. Crab claws, oysters, smoked salmon, salad, dill poached salmon and bread. It was very filling. Staff very attentive too. Quick to get your food which is a bonus. Overall, an amazing pub. Has live music every night too. Didn't try cocktails but they looked good.

Outstanding place for live music. Arrive early for a great table. The bar will be crowded and noisy as the evening goes on, so be prepared for a high energy evening!

For dinner we ordered chicken with vegetables, of which there was only 100g of chicken. The vegetables were just peppered and lacked flavor. The fish and vegetable dish didn't have enough meat; it was a very small piece, and we felt it was expensive for the small amount of protein. The place was nice, good for drinks and music, and the service was fine. It's not a suitable environment for small children, at least on nights with live music. We spent an average of €33 without a starter and with only one drink. If there had been more protein, it would have been a reasonable price.

14/09/2026: Fantastic experience! We had high expectations and they really delivered. Oysters were fresh and delicious. Very interesting menu, different versions of classics. The place is really cozy, the staff is caring and welcoming. The ambiance is cared for, we enjoyed it so much! You definitely need to book in advance, but when visiting Galway and craving fish, this is a top option!!
13/09/2026: One of the locals recommended this place while we were visiting Galway, and he was absolutely right! It’s about an 18-minute walk from the train station, and it’s definitely worth the visit. We had the catch of the day and the seafood linguine, and both were amazing. We didn’t have a reservation, but the staff were kind enough to immediately find us a table. A big shoutout to this place and its wonderful staff! Definitely recommend it. ❤️

26/08/2026: I feel bad giving this review but the service was just really poor :( for context, I was traveling with a tour group that had a stop in Galway. I got there i want to say around 2:45 ish. I was told to grab a menu from the counter and seat myself anywhere for lunch. So I sat myself outside. Seemed like a bit of a bad sign because usually someone is there giving you the menu but I rolled with it. After a few minutes, I walked inside to ask if I needed to go in to place my order, since I saw some people with drinks go inside and back out with drinks. Plus I didn’t see servers helping people outside too much. When I asked inside, they said someone would come to me. Since I was solo, I had to use the bathroom but held it in so I could get my order in. After about 10 minutes or so, no one showing up, I went in and said something to the effect of hey, I’m on a bit of a tight timeline because I have to meet this tour group by a certain time, can I just place my order before I go to the bathroom. I put the order in. I got my beer shortly after, although the person serving didn’t seem to know what table to go to. I wasn’t keeping track of exactly how much time had passed but at this point, about 1/2 hour went by with no food. Sometime between, beer and the 1/2 hour point, I checked in on my order (since no one had actually served me officially, I just ordered at the bar) and was told it had been in put in 5 minutes go. At this point I was supposed to be back at my tour in 40 minutes and I wanted time to explore the city a bit and also eat. I went in and politely asked again, repeating my time constraint and explaining that I would need to leave and go somewhere else, because at this point I was worried about missing my tour group leaving. They checked and said it was on the way. Finally I got my soup, partially spilled, soon followed by a sandwich and oysters. Then I had to go in to pay the bill this way I’d have time to walk around a little (I only had 15 minutes roughly). The food was good. But this service was just really bad, there’s no way around it. I don’t know if I’m being impatient, but in other coastal areas of Ireland (Howth, Bray, Dublin), I’ve had very fast service and thought it would be the same here because I imagine it’s heavily touristed. I feel bad, the staff were trying their best, but it was just so disorganized. I must’ve talked to 5 different people just to make sure my appetizers arrived on time and even then, it didn’t. When I was inside one time, I heard one of the bartenders saying that food was only in the back of the restaurant starting at 3:30(?) and someone else said actually it’s at 4. So I’m wondering if I was even sitting in the right area. even so, I should’ve been told that. I usually don’t mind if service is a bit slower but I would’ve liked to have gotten my order taken my somebody at my table like I was told I would. Or even if they were swamped, to at least check in with me and say hey it’s coming sorry for the delay, instead of me having to get up and check with them. Plus I told them I had a tighter timeline early on. It’s a shame, food was great and I loved the atmosphere, but the service made it a stressful experience because it was so confusing and I was constantly wondering where my food was. In conclusion, I’d say go here if you have time to kill, but not if you’re coming from a tour group and have a tighter timeline.
26/08/2026: Cozy pub. When we were there, there was live music. Good atmosphere.
