The drinks are great and great craic at night. However, my husband and I stopped here for dinner one night when looking for seafood and couldn’t get in to the upscale seafood place nearby. 45 minute wait for 2 people at 7:30pm on a Monday-would highly recommended the salted caramel espresso martini-amazing! We ordered the seafood platter and scallops. The oysters had pieces of shell in them and tasted of pure salt water-I love oysters but these were just not that great. The scallops were slightly overcooked as well. I would avoid this place for seafood and stick with drinks and possibly traditional food only.

Another fantastic pub. Traditional, quaint, rustic, and great. Excellent beer selection, good food, and a cozy atmosphere. The pub has two floors and is huge. The staff is great, and you can meet friendly people there relatively quickly.

Legit bar in the Temple Bar area. Good for tourists and locals alike, though I’m guessing more tourists at high times. Music was great and enjoyable.

Great place to have lunch and soak up the Galway vibes. King Head is centuries old and has a lot of history. Service was quick and the food was good. Would recommend the seafood chowder and fish and chips.

Fantastic experience. We were able to get seated but they get busy and there may be a moderate wait. Great food and wait staff.

During our visit to Galway, we went to this pub based on a recommendation from our tour guide. We decided to go spontaneously and therefore had to wait about 15 minutes for our table. We passed the time with some fries from the stand across the street. Our table in the pub was very cozy, and the service was friendly, attentive, and quick. We all had the stew with mashed potatoes and one of us also ordered the soup of the day. The stew was a bit too bitter for our taste; perhaps it was the celery. The portion was adequate. The stew cost €25 per plate. The atmosphere was good, even though there was no music playing.

The Skeff

09/09/2025: Authentic pub with fantastic food! Service was rather mediocre.
09/09/2025: The Skeff is part of the The Skeffington Arms Hotel. Food was very good. The Seafood Chowder and a couple of (non!) Stout beers from other parts of Ireland were a welcomed change of pace. IPA's, actually. One from Letterkenny, and the other from Kill, County Kildare. Other than the service being just a tad slow, it was (overall) very good. And the live music was magical this night. Okay...Not exactly magical, but covers from bands/artists that everyone knows, sung by a group of a youngish band of 3 called The Groev. They did a great job, actually.

Taaffes

08/06/2026: Fabulous afternoon here with live music 🎶
04/06/2026: Came in for a few pints and some live music on a Weds evening. The duo performing was excellent mixing some classic Irish folk songs with covers of some contemporary music. Pints were cold and served quickly.
