Very popular pub/restaurant on the busiest street in Galway. Lots of tourists but the food is very good. Enormous rib-eyes, great onion rings, excellent chips. A bit crowded - tables seem a bit closer than need be but a positive experience.

Rain, Gin, and Good Food Of course it was raining in Galway—what else would you expect? The sky hung low, as if it were personally blessing every cobblestone. But as soon as the pub door opened, the drizzly gray transformed into a warm glow. As if someone had secretly placed the sun inside, nestled between dark wood and stories that are probably older than many an Irish joke. The Kings Head doesn't bear its name by chance. History clings to the walls here almost as tenaciously as the scent of fried fish hangs in the air. You feel less like a guest and more like a belated homecoming. The decor: a little quirky, very welcoming—just right. Then things get serious when it comes to the food. The seafood chowder: a small revelation. Creamy, rich, honest. Alongside it, fish and chips, crispy like Irish wit. And the oysters! Everything fresh, everything served with that natural ease that needs no words. Brendan Keane doesn't just seem to be cooking here, he seems to be fulfilling a silent promise. In the evenings, the live music makes raising a glass a perfect match. The beer is solid, the gin remarkable – dangerously good. In short: A pub like a poem: slightly melancholic, pleasantly rough around the edges, and surprisingly warm. If you want to understand Galway, start here. P.S.: Dear owners and readers: Thank you for reading! Please leave a heart if you enjoyed this review, as this is the only way we can collectively increase awareness of this spot. Thank you.

Quite expensive, and the interior decor is too modern. The person who greeted us was very friendly, but the waitresses weren't very attentive.

McSwiggans

10/04/2026: The food was very good, I believe I got some type of seafood platter, very fresh tasting. but the girls at the front door were kind of rude and sassy kinda made me uncomfortable and not welcome. The waiter was much nicer though.
