10/06/2025: Stopped here soaked and exhausted during a bike road trip, the owner offered coffee and tea free of charge. Great place and nice customers, thanks a lot.

24/05/2025: Best pub in galway, Joby ,Càit and all the staff go over and above ,always great atmosphere, music ,sports and Craic ,Joe's is the place to be

18/10/2025: I could get no room in the shearwater hotel, they recommend pillar house bar to me, I just wanted a bed to sleep in, nothing fancy. It's in the town , and a few steps down from the pub itself. Absolutely did the job for me, the bed is massive and ensuite small but it's only me. 50 euro for the night no breakfast, that's grand And no hurry up in the morning.

27/07/2025: Found this bar on a trip up the River Shannon. We decided to go up the River Suck randomly and check out the town for the night. John was an amazing host, great bar and a beautiful town. Highly recommend a visit!

07/01/2026: I recently had the pleasure of trying Appachi Pizza in Ballinasloe, and I can confidently say it's hands down the best pizza I've ever had! The service was prompt, and the staff were knowledgeable about the menu, offering great recommendations. Highly recommend! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

04/01/2026: Stayed here last weekend with my partner and child for our anniversary. The hotel itself is nice and the reception staff were very friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately, the restaurant experience really let the stay down. On the first evening we were told the restaurant was fully booked, then squeezed into a back room. The food was overpriced for the quality and portion sizes - I ordered a half roast chicken and received what was essentially one 2 drumsticks. The food arrived very quickly and felt rushed, with no staff checking on us afterwards. My partner’s pizza also appeared undercooked. The second day, I tried to book the spa for my partner but it was fully booked for the week. Later, when booking dinner again, I was told the residents restaurant was fully booked but “might” fit us in if my name was taken. That evening there were no beef burgers available. I ordered a chicken burger (€20) and specifically asked twice for no mayonnaise or coleslaw on it, but it arrived with both. Starters and mains were brought out together, and once the food was dropped, staff disappeared. We waited around 30-40 minutes before I could get a waiter’s attention to raise the issue (definitely understaffed for this time of year). The room was okay but quite cold. Overall, the stay was overpriced for what we received and did not meet the standard expected of a four-star hotel. While the reception staff were excellent, the food quality, service, and value for money were not good.
