The best restaurants in Ballinasloe

29/12/2024: We were traveling from Dublin to Connemara and were pleasantly surprised by the whole facility and the very friendly and helpful staff. Only the very young man at breakfast was visibly overwhelmed by our wishes. But I can still fully recommend it. Food was also delicious and very plentiful. Seems to be a local hotspot. At the end of the week it is advisable to reserve in advance.

29/12/2024: Had a meal out in Moycairn Lodge on Friday night Dolan group 20 People Absolutely delighted with the beautiful food and the service was excellent also The staff were very friendly and helpful and we had a dining room all to ourselves Definitely be back 5/5

25/11/2024: As a weekly resident in Ballinasloe, I have had takeaways from every fast food outlet in the town. Nothing different from the usual, until I decided to get our takeaway on the way into town. We got a kebab and a chicken breast with chips. The chips were big chunks of fresh potato, perfectly cooked. The chicken breast was huge (are they breeding superchickens in Creagh?). My partner's kebab, wrapped in tinfoil, was also large and very tasty. This takeaway shop is, far and away, the best in the town, and probably the county. Never again will I settle for average when, 1 Km away, is the best Ive ever tasted.

25/12/2024: Food was fanastic second time there, couldnt wait to go back. Downside was the service. Waitress didnt check on us to see if we wanted more food or drinks. We werent offered the dessert menu or tea or coffee after your delicious pasta dinner so disappointing

18/11/2024: The pizza we had in this little gem of a restaurant is the best he have ever eaten in our lives! and have tried alot of pizza. Lots of options on the menu and not overpriced at all for what you get.The two girls working were very friendly and helpful but run off there feet trying to do everything on there own. More staff required.

21/11/2024: Me and my girlfriend went for breakfast we got the breakfast bagel it was the best breakfast we have ever got out and the price was unbelievable for the portion and the coffee was so good we got 2 each

26/11/2024: This was one of our favorite places we visited on our journey around Ireland. It's located in the heart of Letterkenny. It's a big bar -- three floors tall. The first floor bar is somewhat small but they have tables around the bar for additional seating. They have 10-12 beers on tap. Not a huge menu but the food was excellent. We had the seafood chowder, which was outstanding -- rich and full of seafood of various kinds. The fish and chips were delicious. Even the side salad was above average. Jimmy (from the Bronx) and Paul were super friendly and made our experience even better. We would 100% visit again.

08/01/2025: The bathroom smelled of wee. Architrave was rotting around the bathroom door. There was a box of quality street open clearly for some time in the room on arrival, with open packaging and chocolate laying around inside. The beds were clean and fine. The breakfast was poor. The puddings were incredibly dry and overcooked. The pool lighting was half on, going there after dark the pool was very dark and drab. Dinner there was largely ok..starters soup was very nice, as was dessert Mains was meh. But the staff there were friendly. Needless to say I won't be going there again, not recommending to anyone. 3 stars purely based on an ok dinner and friendly staff all round

06/01/2025: The Management of this hotel need a serious review. We attended the Shearwater Hotel for a family wedding On December 30th. We went into the hotel the night before to meet the bridal parts. Too say the bar service was poor was a understatement and left us wondering what it would be like the day of the actual wedding. On the wedding day nothing had improved, only two staff behind the bar for a busy bar was simply not good enough, the staff were rude and very slow at serving the drinks, they had no ability to take more than one order and were well trained in how to keep their head down, avoid eye contact and not engage with customers. The counters and tables were littered with empty glasses and bottles and obviously nobody was assigned for collecting glasses or dealing with the build up at the bar. For the area where the wedding ceremony was to take place was decorated nicely, one observation was that there was lovely little trees along the isle that all had sets of fairy lights on them, I went to try turn on the lights and no set on any of the trees were working, this would have been a lovely simple touch to have got sorted for the ceremony. The ceremony was due to start at 2pm but minutes before the ceremony started the manager brought another couple and their friends (who obviously were checking the venue out for their own wedding day) through the area into the ballroom and back out a short while later, this was very un professional as there was lots of other times they could have carried out this viewing apart from holding the bride up from walking down the isle. Onto the meal and this was one of positive of the few days in the Shearwater, the meal was beautiful and served in a very good time frame. The real issue was that the manager was directing staff to serve each table, he looked like he really didn't want to be there, The quickly moved from table to table but the manager or waitresses not once asked anyone at the table were they ok for everything or was everything ok. It really wouldn't have taken a lot. When the meal was over the manager started moving chairs and the tables off the dance floor for the dance area to be clear. He was not very polite in the way he approached people to get this done. The meal was over two hours and out table and ones around us still have side plates, cutlery, gravy boat, bread rolls from starter, napkins etc. I went to reception and asked if this could be addressed and it was only then that some staff came into clear off the tables properly after service. Really not good enough. In the morning we got up for breakfast and in fairness the manageress that was working was polite and helpful and the breakfast was good. For day two (New years Eve) we had the family get together in the marina bar and a buffet meal. We all met in the main bar but again the bar service was dreadful and slow. The food for the buffet was lovely despite waiting for more chips and rice to come it was good. Unfortunately we all finished our meal and there was no floor staff on duty to remove the plates, cutlery glasses etc. If the Comber group want to improve this hotel they really have to look at the managers they employ to execute their vision. I cannot blame the staff as they are trying but for e it all comes back to leadership and training. If the manager on the day is unfriendly and unpleasant to deal with how can the staff learn and grow from his example. The manager tried to blame the poor service etc on the fact that staff called in sick, I don't accept this. For me the hotel really needs to look at how they train their bar staff and waitresses. If the employed a person who's job is training staff on how to serve tables and food correctly and politely, train bar staff how to serve drinks more efficiently and politely. This persons salary would be repaid with higher sales, higher customer satisfaction leading to better business. There is little personal touches that is missing and attention to detail in many area lacking, some of the little details are small but make a big difference.
