14/08/2026: Wharton’s is a filthy dirty chipper full of filthy dirty staff. Avoid it like the plague folks 👎 First of all, it is not a “restaurant”. It’s a chip shop/takeaway that charges restaurant prices — €19.00 for fish and chips, €5.00 for a portion of chips etc. If you want value for money alone this place is best avoided. I also notice they are selling those cheap imported knock-off cans of coke. Did they pass on the savings to the customer??? Of course they did! Only €2.50 a can 👍🏼 The music is so loud and annoying you would want to shoot yourself in the head, and the staff were unbelievably rude, especially the older brown haired woman who had more than just a chip on her shoulder. Imagine being paid to do a job and being a thundering disgrace to the paying customers. Madness. The standard sized burger that I got for €6.50 (which is €2.50 - €3.50 in most chippers) tasted so weird that I left half of it behind. Not sure if it was the meat or the cheese, but there was a taste of washing up liquid off it. At least the €5.00 scoop of chips filled me up a bit. Cash only at the till (no card machine in 2026, a tax dodge no doubt?) and an out of order sign on the toilet to top it all off. This is Ireland in 2026 — price-gouging, cutting corners, bad food, small portions and absolutely appalling staff with terrible customer service skills. And no doubt it’s the same type of business that would be first on the local radio show to moan about how “people need to support local businesses” - “costs are going up” - “can’t make a profit because” - “inflation/Trump/Ukraine war” - blah blah blah blah blah. An utter disgrace to the people of Bantry and I would encourage tourists or people passing through Bantry to avoid it.

03/08/2026: We haven’t ate fish and chips like this since Iceland, so fresh and cooked perfectly, nice touch with the real flowers on each table and the counter .
