Abbeyglen Castle Hotel in Clifden

Unbelievable experience! Management & staff are so good! November 14th, 2025: I need to say more as I didn't do it justice with the brief comment above. We simply loved this place. If we were ever to visit Ireland again, Abbeyglen Castle Hotel would be on the TOP of our list of places to stay!

Our stay at Abbeyglen Castle Hotel was wonderful. The castle has so much character, the rooms are clean and comfortable, and the staff were warm and attentive throughout our visit. One of the absolute highlights was the evening talk. Hearing the history of the castle and the surrounding area brought the whole experience to life and made the stay feel even more meaningful. It was engaging, fun, and something that set Abbeyglen apart from any other stay we have had. We would love to return on our next trip to the area.

Good breakfast, comfortable beds, but the rooms could use a better renovation: very kitschy, and the bathroom ventilation system is extremely noisy.

My husband and I spent four nights at Abbeyglen Castle in early November and absolutely loved it. The castle has such a cosy, homely feel — the perfect place to return to after a day exploring the stunning coastline and mountains of Connemara. There are several welcoming reception rooms, each with a large roaring fire, which made it feel extra warm and inviting on chilly evenings. Most guests during our visit were older couples, which made for a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere — though I imagine it’s just as lovely for younger visitors in the summer months. Abbeyglen Castle is full of character, warmth and genuine hospitality. We left with wonderful memories and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Connemara.

Myself & 2 friends spent 3 nights in the Abbeyglen recently & had a most enjoyable experience. From minute we landed everything was perfect, from breakfast to history of house to a fabulous dinner. We got brilliant value for what we paid for our stay. Staff were very helpful staff at reception. restaurant & bar staff & cleaners. We will definitely be making this an annual trip

This is going to be a long one. This place is five stars, more like seven, do you want character? This has it do you want architecture has that too? Do you want a beautiful view check, can you walk to town?yes. Do you like Ivy? This place has lots of it. The inside, it’s old. There’s necks and scratches, it feels like the kind of place you’ll never wanna leave. Staff? Fantastic. The rooms, unbelievable. The bathrooms? As nice as they could possibly be. Fabulous rain showers. The food, absolutely five star, the food service? Add another five stars. The atmosphere? Had another five stars. We went on a tour of Scotland in Ireland and this by far was the finest place we stayed. I actually had to stop and ask some of the staff people how they liked working there, because if you could choose the most fabulous place to have a job, this would be it. What a fantastic experience staying here. Loved it. From the moment our tour van pulled up to their front door, Brian Hughes and staff made our visit extraordinary. The Castle/Hotel was magnificent. Dinner was excellent. Waitstaff and Brian made it a night to remember. We heard the history of the Castle and locale. Brian regaled us with a song on the piano. We celebrated the night. Brian is a showman. Thank you Abbeyglen for being a highlight of our trip to Ireland.
