Abbeyglen was hands down the best hotel I've ever stayed at. My family stayed here for 3 days for Christmas, and the staff and owners really made the place homey and welcoming. They are the true gems; every need, every ask was handled. The waiters during breakfast and dinner were smooth and responsive. The moment my coffee was empty at breakfast, it was immediately getting refilled. The food for dinner was delicious every meal (3/3). The meals were all of the classics (pork Wellington, cod, etc), but every dish was 5/5. The crab claws were excellent btw. Furthermore, the Christmas special was really fun. The area has a nice balance of peace and quiet, but also have a sense of being filled and like you're not alone. There was a child and his mom playing on the steps, an older couple reading by the fire, and folks playing cards in the bar. It was a very special Christmas vacation, and we are lucky to have been a part of it. Abbeyglen, I'll be back one day. Truly a special place. Thank you Brian, Ronan, and all of the staff. Your staff were all fantastic. Seriously, from Nico to Olive at the front, all were fantastic.

Everything about our stay at this wonderful castle hotel was top notch and we had so much fun and memorable times that we can't wait to do it again. At the welcoming prosecco reception, we met Ronan (one of the owners) who greeted us with stories of the castles history and the origins of the region. His personal greeting and interest in each guest was so friendly and welcoming, we extended our stay another night before the reception even ended. We recommend staying here to anyone seeking a truly authentic Irish experience in a beautiful castle hotel. After spending 2 weeks touring around the country and staying at several castle hotels, this is by far our favorite and the best value. Ronan and his friendly staff made our entire experience feel like we were part of the community rather than visitors from across the sea. The well trained staff always greeted us by name were very helpful with local information.

Our stay at Abbeyglen Castle Hotel was wonderful. The castle has so much character, the rooms are clean and comfortable, and the staff were warm and attentive throughout our visit. One of the absolute highlights was the evening talk. Hearing the history of the castle and the surrounding area brought the whole experience to life and made the stay feel even more meaningful. It was engaging, fun, and something that set Abbeyglen apart from any other stay we have had. We would love to return on our next trip to the area.

Unbelievable experience! Management & staff are so good! November 14th, 2025: I need to say more as I didn't do it justice with the brief comment above. We simply loved this place. If we were ever to visit Ireland again, Abbeyglen Castle Hotel would be on the TOP of our list of places to stay!

Good breakfast, comfortable beds, but the rooms could use a better renovation: very kitschy, and the bathroom ventilation system is extremely noisy.

My husband and I spent four nights at Abbeyglen Castle in early November and absolutely loved it. The castle has such a cosy, homely feel — the perfect place to return to after a day exploring the stunning coastline and mountains of Connemara. There are several welcoming reception rooms, each with a large roaring fire, which made it feel extra warm and inviting on chilly evenings. Most guests during our visit were older couples, which made for a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere — though I imagine it’s just as lovely for younger visitors in the summer months. Abbeyglen Castle is full of character, warmth and genuine hospitality. We left with wonderful memories and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Connemara.
