The best restaurants in Clifden

15/05/2026: Typical pub. Everybody is friendly. Great whisky selection. Best Guinness I had so far. Music on point with folk irish songs. Clifden and Lowry's knows how to welcome people.

10/05/2026: Good traditional Irish food. Nice live music in the evening, of course. Be warned, it's not easy to get a table.

20/04/2026: Authentic old castle hotel. Timeless, great service, clean & today. Beautiful spacious bedrooms & unbelievable bathroom size with shower & seperate tub bath.

18/04/2026: Yup, it’s a castle, 🏰 it’s a fairy tale come true! So so beautiful! And I love how green the walls are!

05/05/2026: Walked in for dinner. Had the Cauliflower & Blue Cheese Soup (delicious. The blend of flavor was on point. You can barely taste the blue cheese) as a starter. Then we ordered the Chef’s Mejadra (an arabic inspired cuisine) and the Mild Goan Chicken Curry. Both were very tasty and plated wonderfully well. There’s no meat in the Mejadra dish, only rice with lentils and what tasted like Halloumi Cheese and a few broccoli, and the Curry is not spicy at all. Kudos to the chef(s)! The service was good as well. From the gentleman that met us at the door to the ones at the bar. Terribly, terribly wonderful and friendly people. Will definitely come back.

04/05/2026: Really tasty seafood chowder, and good vegetarian lunch option of Goats cheese parpadelle, was tasty but could have done with a bit more of that Goats cheese. Brown bread ice cream was delicious, and service was exceptional.

16/04/2026: I’ll start by saying the waitress suggested the early bird special. It was 8 o’clock, wasn’t that early but she said they still offered it. At the end of the meal there was some confusion over what the early bird special included as we thought it was one of the listed starters, one of the listed entrees, and any of the menu desserts. So that is what we ordered and we were never questioned by the waitress for clarification even after pointing to the special page. But if you read the menu closely, it’s either a starter and an entrée or an entrée and a dessert. Small print on the top of the menu and they’re all listed on the same page on the menu leads one to thinking there’s actually a special price. The reality is there is no special price. The food was good. The mussels were local and good with a large quantity. The seafood chowder was good, but a little thin. The soup of the day was potato and celery. Initially, I thought restaurant was good and a good value, but after the misunderstanding I was not as impressed.

31/10/2025: Had dinner here recently, I would be a semi regular at this spot. Not sure if it’s been leased out since the last time I was there, as I didn’t see any of the old familiar faces working on the night I was there. What has changed is the introduction of a 10% service charge, which is extremely disappointing to see, none of my other usual spots in Clifden or its surrounding areas have this, so not sure why it’s been introduced here. I wasn’t aware of this until I was paying the bill, it might be on the menu, I’m not sure, but it definitely didn’t apply last time I visited. Probably going to give it a miss for a while, might pop back when the VAT rate gets reduced, see if the service charge still applies. If it does, I’ll be trying somewhere else up the street!

10/10/2025: Lovely calamari, fish and chips. Friendly service. A bit pricey but it was good.

14/05/2026: Irish music in the background, excellent beer. Excellent meat and fish. Without realizing it, we chose an excellent restaurant. Recommended!

26/09/2025: Really really fab restaurant. Staff, food and ambience were all ten out of ten. Came here with a group and Sandra and all her staff looked after us to no end. The food was just perfect. Very much hope to be back. Thank you so much :) <3

26/09/2025: After one too many toasties I treated myself to a proper dinner and had the chicken dish. It was so delicious. I couldn’t get enough of the sauce that was with it. Amazing.

22/05/2026: We stayed at the Foyle's Hotel and had dinner at this restaurant, followed by breakfast the next morning. The service was impeccable, very friendly and efficient. The food was truly excellent, without being overpriced. The setting is beautiful; a very pleasant surprise indeed.

07/06/2026: 12 years ago it was different managers and it was very good. Now the waiter was unfriendly; they served the starter and main course at the same time. It's a disgrace to sell such small mussels. Avoid this place.

18/05/2026: The staff here make your stay very special . They are so welcoming and accommodating. The rooms are very clean and the breakfasts have a large range. The smoked salmon, scrambled eggs & capers are delicious.

06/04/2026: We ordered drinks at the same time as being handed the menu. The drinks came out fairly quickly but the waitress slammed the drinks in front of us and asked for our food orders, I had to ask 3 times for a minute to decide. She insisted and took the food orders from some of the rest of the table. I had to chase the staff to be able to order after and the food came out at different times as a result. Food was only ok for the price.

27/05/2026: A charming old historic hotel full of character and authenticity. It is very centrally located right in the heart of Clifden, which naturally means there can occasionally be a little bit of street activity already early in the morning. However, the unique location and atmosphere more than make up for it, and the prices are very reasonable and fair. We especially enjoyed the breakfast — the homemade plum compote and homemade apple compote were absolutely delicious. The hospitality from the entire team was excellent, and we felt very well looked after throughout our stay. We were very satisfied and would gladly return.

21/05/2026: The room and bathroom were spacious, very clean, and warm. There were plenty of breakfast options, and the restaurant was excellent with friendly, attentive service. Highly recommended!

31/05/2026: This is an exceptional restaurant of superb food and drinks the service is excellent. The lobster 🦞 is so delicious 🤤 the lamb 🐑 shanks were professional cooked the fell off the bone 🍖. Starters of ribs and wings are also delicious. The deserts are so delicious 🤤

18/05/2026: I was here with friends on a weekend and the area we sat in was spacious and near the front. For starters, I had the soup of the day (creamy veg) and we were given a mix of white and brown sharing bread. For mains, I had steak with sweet potato chips, onion rings, sauteed onions, mushrooms and pepper sauce. The steak was huge and perfectly cooked. The portion size was huge so I didnt have room for dessert!! The red wine and coffee were also delicious. The staff were attentive and everything was reasonably priced. The staff were obliging when I asked for a candle in my friends dessert for her birthday. I would come here again and recommend to others.
