On my first ever visit to Clifden which took place last week, we found ourselves popping into Griffin's bar for some lunch. I had the best fish pie I've had since I don't know when. Marion enjoyed a nice steak sandwich. Both David & John made us feel very welcome. Then a local 82year old mad entertained us with a quick dancing demo. Apparently he also recites poetry and you might even get a song out of him! It was a memorable experience and made all the better when David ran us up to see the Sky Road (if you get the chance to see it you'll understand why it's called the sky road.) I can't wait to visit Clifden and Griffin's bar again. Couldn't recommend it enough, thanks David & John.

Abbeyglen Castle Hotel

17/02/2026: We only stayed for one night, but if I'd have known how great this place is - we'd have planned to stay for a few nights. We felt so welcome from the moment we arrived (thanks Froda!), the location is outstanding, and the hospitality was perfect. The dinner and breakfast were both fantastic, and the atmosphere in the bar was the best. I'm running out of adjectives to describe how good this place is, I'll have some more ready for when we're back next time. Cheers!
02/02/2026: We had a family wedding in the Abbeyglen recently and it was simply excellent. The setting is amazing, a castle in the west of Ireland. The rooms are beautiful and very very comfortable, 4 poster beds, twin sinks luxurious bath. The host and owner was a tremendous entertainer who made the weekend even better (playing music singing chatting!). We stayed on after the wedding and got the full guest experience. I cant recommend the Abbeyglen highly enough.

Lowry's Bar

13/01/2026: By far our favourite Pub in Clifden. Always great atmosphere and fantastic live music. We love going there off season, also nice for drink or hot whiskey after a walk on colder days. The Staff is fantastic, lovely to talk to especially Bernie very welcoming.
08/12/2025: Loved this bar. Friendly staff. Old world charm with authentic traditional decor. Comfy booths with candles on tables.
