I got the impression that the people eating there were very local and regulars. I liked the rustic-looking tableware. Beautiful presentation, delicate and elegant flavors. Craft beers Cookbooks on the windowsill Great find!

We went for lunch - we got cafee and cakes, which were good, but then decided to eat there as well. The soup of the day was with mushrooms and flakes of almond. Had no taste of mushrooms and was hardly eatble. Then we ordered fish and chips. The chips were probably frozen or reheated, but they were not fresh and the fish, had no panko on it, was tasteless, moo-shy and too oily. Maybe they had another cook as it was bank holiday and it was fully booked, but the food we ordered was not at all good.

We had a delicious bite to eat out in the court yard in the sunshine. Very busy Sunday but we were given a table within a few minutes. Great service and really enjoyed our lunch.

Perfect dinner experience, as always. Noticed some new menu tweaks made to continue offering gorgeous food and drinks at affordable prices, versus pushing prices on to the customer. Genuine neighbourhood cafe touch!

We've not been back to the Castle for a while but it was always a family favourite. Delighted to return this weekend to the same friendly faces, great service and excellent food, fab vegan options too. Thanks Jerry as always

I have mixed feelings about this place. It’s a local posh people’s restaurant. Atmosphere was fine, although not my cup of tea ☺️☺️☺️ it was a Saturday morning so the place was busy, noisy… How the coffee was?! Hhmmm I had better. Soup of the day was very tasty 🤤 But as a coffee lover…. Mmm nope 👎 I would go back in the summer for the outside tables:) Ps:manager/supervisor-visibly tensed /superficial and agitated🤷🏻‍♀️😌 smile 😊 I didn’t felt welcomed by the stuff . Thank you guys! I had better 🫣

The Fota Restaurant

10/05/2026: Fota Island Resort — Short Enthusiast Overview Fota Island Resort A large 5-star luxury golf and spa resort set on its own private island in Cork Harbour, Fota Island Resort is one of Ireland’s most complete “all-in-one” luxury estates — combining hotel, lodges, championship golf, and a world-class spa just minutes from Cork City. Atmosphere Think: A modern Irish luxury island estate — green, spacious, and built around golf, woodland, and calm coastal air. It feels less like a historic manor and more like a self-contained luxury resort village, where nature, sport, and wellness are the focus. Why it stands out Located on a private island in Cork Harbour, ~15 minutes from Cork City Set across hundreds of acres of woodland and landscaped grounds One of Ireland’s top golf resorts (championship courses, Irish Open history) Strong spa and wellness reputation (large hydrotherapy and treatment facilities) Mix of hotel rooms + suites + self-catering lodges for different travel styles Signature experiences 🏌️ Championship golf courses (major tournament pedigree) 🧖 Large ESPA-style spa with pools, hydrotherapy, and treatment suites 🌲 Woodland walking trails and cycling routes across the estate 🏊 Indoor pool + fitness + wellness facilities 🍽 Fine dining and relaxed resort restaurants 🏡 Lodge stays for groups and families (full kitchen, fireplaces, privacy) What enthusiasts love most The scale of the estate (huge, green, and private island setting) Golf-first luxury resort experience Choice between hotel comfort and private lodge living Strong spa + wellness infrastructure Easy access to Cork while still feeling “away from everything” Style & character Compared with Ireland’s other luxury hotels: Less historic than Ballyfin or Ashford Castle More resort-driven than boutique manor hotels like Sheen Falls More activity-focused than romantic “quiet luxury” properties Best described as: “Ireland’s flagship modern golf-and-spa resort on a private island estate.” Best for Golf-focused luxury trips Families and group stays (lodges are a big draw) Spa + wellness weekends Active resort holidays (tennis, trails, sports) Cork-based luxury escapes close to the city Official site: Fota Island Resort Official Website
07/05/2026: Did the Me & You couples spa package and had such a lovely day! We started off with lunch which was delicious - chicken fajita bowl and an array of cake slices. We then did the mud bath (which also includes an outdoor sauna), followed by a massage and facial. In between treatments, we were put into the relaxation room, which was lovely. We finished all our treatments with some light refreshments. All in all, we were there from about 11.30-5.30, so I think we got our money worth. All of the staff were really welcoming and friendly, from the receptionist and the servers, to the masseuses. Everywhere was so clean too!! Really enjoyed this package and will definitely be back. I feel so refreshed!!

The White Horse

15/05/2026: Awesome service and great food.
14/05/2026: My family and I rented a private room for a storytelling and musical evening - and had a special menu prepared for our group. The experience we had was outstanding in every respect. The servers were professional and welcoming from the start. They were also very accommodating to food allergies and substitutions we asked for. The main server Bev was truly delightful. She was so friendly and made the evening seamless - from appetizers to dessert. The food itself was fantastic including the Roast of the Day and the incredible Homemade Apple Crumble. Could not have asked for a better experience!
