The Helm in Westport

Had a delicious meal and a very cozy cafe.

We had a lovely meal at The Helm Restaurant. Relaxed atmosphere, friendly service, and super fresh, perfectly cooked monkfish and black sole. A great spot for a casual, enjoyable dining experience.

A really great place to stay. The location is perfect. With a beautiful view of Croagh Patrick, the apartments are situated across from a small park area which borders a walk by the harbour. Ideal for joggers, dog walkers etc. At the far end is a sea swimming area with a sauna and outdoor changing facilities. The apartment was large, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Well appointed with quick wifi connection. Pool, gym and spa facilities are available at a nearby hotel but we didn't have time to try them out. Downstairs is the bar which served a top notch freshly cooked breakfast each morning (this was included in the price - such good value!). Dinner finishes at 9pm and on our first night we were very close to 9pm on our arrival. The chef was actually leaving but came back to get us some hot food! (Thank you for that kindness Mr Chef!). All the staff we met, waiting staff and bar staff were without exception very friendly and attentive. A couple of complementary drinks on our last night were very unexpected and such a nice touch. We have stayed in several apartments and houses in the locality, Castlebar, Westport, Newport and Foxford. This particular stay was promoted to the top of our list. I can't recommend the Helm apartments and bar highly enough.
