I went here with some friends on a rainy day. The welcome, soundtrack, and location were excellent. The staff's friendliness deserved five stars. You're greeted directly with water. The food was fairly in line with other places I've eaten, both in price and quality. However, every guidebook described this charming village as the gastronomic capital of Ireland. The restaurant's reviews were good, but by my standards, it was disappointing. A small disclaimer about the three-star food rating: I'm Italian, from Bologna and living in Rome, but since I travel a lot, I know I can't compare the food from my home country to that of countries much further north. I tried to be as objective as possible. The three of us had three pints each and a dish each, and we spent about €130.

This pub has rustic charm. Friendly waitresses. We had the beef & beamish stew & roast beef rib special. Good portion sizes & both were absolutely delicious. Great home-cooked food! Definitely recommend.

The food was very good. The toilets are very poor. They need to be modernised and update. They are not reallyfit for purpose. Mary

Bastion

29/03/2026: It is rare to enjoy a truly memorable dinner in at least a 💮💮 Michelin for the price of an affordable 💮 Michelin. Bastion is one of those rare opportunities. Kinsale is far from all the main cities. The closest airports are Cork and Shannon, and then you have to drive. But Kinsale is a lovely Irish seaside village with genuine Irish warmth. At first, Bastion is a simple, cosy restaurant, bathed in this genuine warmth and the caring smiles of all the staff. But as the menu begins, you gradually realise you are tasting a stunning, unique, world-class gastronomy. The enchantment is in absolutely all the dishes, a symphony of creative yet well-balanced flavours. This symphony becomes almost divine if you choose their wine pairing, which is of great finesse, complementing the dishes in an expert way you rarely find. The only thing you might have a bit of back-and-forth about is the dessert, for being only a good dessert. Bastion looks like a normal, nice restaurant, not on any major route, which is probably why it has only one 💮. But gastronomically, my goodness, it is very close to the world very best. And, it matters, they are passionate and friendly. A lifetime experience!

Ohk

13/03/2026: Honestly, my local colleagues and friends were absolutely right — this might just be the best brunch in Cork. I had the Turkish Eggs Flatbread (full plate) with halloumi and chorizo, plus a regular mocha, and it was brilliant. The eggs were perfectly cooked with that lovely jammy centre, sitting on creamy yoghurt and topped with beautifully grilled halloumi and rich, flavourful chorizo. It was incredibly satisfying. The whole plate looked gorgeous too — such great colours. I also really enjoyed the little salad on the side, especially the pickled onions and the fresh greens (watercress maybe?). But the biggest surprise for me was actually the flatbread underneath — unbelievably soft and fluffy, perfect for soaking up all those amazing flavours. Absolutely delicious. I’ll definitely be back. Highly recommend if you’re in Cork and fancy a proper brunch. 😊
05/03/2026: This place was the highlight of my Irish experience. It was recommend to us by the instagram influencer gods themselves. While I’m not religious, I did hear the voice that day as I bit into the breakfast burger. The poached eggs busted upon the sausage patties, and so did I when the jalapeño jam hit my tastebuds. The delectable combination of spicy and sweet was unlike anything I had ever experienced in my mouth. Insane work. Unreal. Have been dreaming about the burger since I finished. A man or America could never. Special shoutout to the workers. Who not only blessed our hearts with their kindness, friendliness and hospitality, but also our eyes. Until we meet again, magical kinsale breakfast burger. Slainté.
