19/01/2026: On a cold, wet Mayo evening, my wife Vivien and I found exactly the welcome we needed at An Port Mór restaurant in the county. From the moment we arrived, Lucy and Sophie greeted us with a warmth and ease that immediately set the tone for a memorable night, making the weather outside feel entirely irrelevant.
I began with beautifully prepared smoked salmon, followed by a blade of beef that was nothing short of superb - rich, tender, and deeply satisfying, before finishing with a perfectly executed crème brûlée, all accompanied by elegant, well-chosen wines that complemented each course effortlessly. Vivien’s meal was equally impressive: a comforting, flavourful soup to start, followed by delicately cooked hake, and a pavlova that was as light and delicious as it was beautifully presented.
Port Mór once again reminded us why it remains our favourite restaurant in the West of Ireland if not the '32' counties: exceptional food, thoughtful wine pairings, and lovely people with genuine hospitality that turns an evening out into something truly special. Even on the coldest, wettest night, it delivers warmth in every sense. Eamonn de Búrca
