The best restaurants in Donegal

07/01/2025: I came across this place when I was roaming around in the Donegal Town but never knew this place is a hidden gem from inside. I have been here before but just had coffee and did not had chance to taste their food that day. But later or sooner I did get another chance to taste from their menu. We were here celebrating my colleagues birthday and had met for lunch at Simple Simons as this is her best place to go to. Not gonna lie the food was excellent, beyond my expectations. Being a vegetarian there are very less options for us when we go out for lunch or dinner or anything. Here I had 2 or 3 options to choose from. The ambience here is quite beautiful and the show stopper is the view you get from the window of the Donegal Diamond Centre. I won't write much but the experience here was fabulous and food was worth to try for and also very convenient as it is right at the centre of Donegal Town. Difficult to get street parking but there is a great parking lot nearby just where we catch the waterbus from. The shop is at walkable distance of hardly 2 min from the parking lot. I would recommend going and enjoying food from their lovely menu.

15/12/2024: ¡La semana pasada estuve en Donegal Town por negocios y vine a Sie Simon a tomar algo! Pedí un poco de lasaña, pero no tenían ninguna así que decidieron por 3 Rollos de Salchicha! para llevar! Le di a la dependienta 20 euros y me devolvieron E 2 euros 35 centavos... Le dije a la dependienta que le había dado E 20 euros y ella respondió abruptamente que mi compra era E 17 : 65 euros... Para 3 rollos de embutido de tamaño mediano ... . ¡Todavía estoy en shock!

04/11/2024: Me and my girlfriend came here for dinner last night. This was our second time coming, young staff were pleasant. However, the female manager/owner was extremely rude, not at all welcoming and both times has had no manners. It makes an uncomfortable atmosphere when eating, we couldn’t get out fast enough. They also give complimentary bread, which we did not receive. Everyone else in the restaurant had this and when the female came to take our order it was clear we had not received it. She did not thank us nor even smile when we left, will not be back.

28/10/2024: Este restaurante era la mejor cocina italiana que hemos tenido en mucho tiempo. Pedimos el Risotto Frutti di Mare y el Linguini Frutti di Mare. Ambos eran deliciosos con un montón de mariscos! Recomendamos encarecidamente!

23/02/2025: Lovely place, I had chowder. It was really thick, more like a fish stew, but I ate it all, the wheaten bread was gorgeous 😍

12/12/2024: Epic pies from this gem behind the The Diamond. Top notch Ital-grade pizza—great crust and sauce cooked properly. Lovely truck and excellent friendly chef!

15/10/2024: The pizza was delicious better than one I got in Italy. The chef was really friendly and helpful. I will definitely recommend to family and friends

25/01/2025: We have a family lunch here on New Year 2025. Great portions of food and very delicious. The staff are friendly and helpful. We will come back again for sure. 👍

05/10/2024: Mega tasty and fresh. Super friendly staff. Another restaurant that I would like to take home with me. So if you're looking for a restaurant in Donegal, I can only recommend this one.

24/12/2024: We happened to be in town and fancied breakfast so here seemed a good bet. I had the avocado +poached eggs and decided to add bacon, whilst my companion had the large fry The bread, avocado and poached egg were nice, in fact the basil oil around the plate added an extra zing...I do wish I hadn't added the bacon as it appeared either deep fried or re cooked in some way as it was brittle and lacked flavour The fry was below par. Plenty of it but over cooked and perhaps not drained as the over whelming flavour was oil. I swapped one of my poached for my partner's fried egg and wished I hadn't as it was very far from runny and oily tasting. The staff are attentive and friendly and run the front of house efficiently but I do think the meals are a little on the pricy side

11/02/2025: Located in a fantastic area right in the town centre, when we arrived we sat in the bar part of the premises, the front bar was warm when the back part where we sat was very cold with no heating on, staff was very friendly showed us to our room. Rooms where in a good condition for the price, the carpet was stained, and there was some floaters in the kettle. The heating in the room was extremely hot this left me unable to sleep, when we return to the room and I noticed the radiators were blasting I turned all off, also my partner burnt his hands on the water as it was extremely hot very quickly. Overall it was an ok spot for the price

31/12/2024: Lovely old man’s pub. Good atmosphere, friendly staff, nice and cozy, good Guinness. The only bit of advice would be to get the door to the bar fixed so it closes automatically, as everyone leaves it open as they come in.

23/11/2024: My husband and I had a coffee each (Americano €3 and Cappuccino €3.50) and shared a divine lemon meringue tart (€4) here on a Saturday. Lovely coffee. It was quiet though locals trickled in to buy the last of the freshly baked baguettes🥖. Some had unusual flavours like green curry and lemon. Only thing I'd change here is more comfortable seating however highly recommended for an authentic French boulangerie. Continued success🙌.
