Up@Brews
Dublin
16/06/2025: (Long review incoming)
Speaking as a former employee of up@brews, make sure you are aware what it is they expect from you, because they will expect you to work 9hr shifts with no breaks at all, and if a customer complains about something relating to you, the owner or manager won’t tell you, at least that’s my experience that happened.
I worked in up@brews for 4 months and I loved working there, getting to know the locals and staff, as well as improving on my job as a barista. One day I took a 30 min break during a 9hr shift, since it is your basic human right (I have done 9hr shifts before with up@brews and never took a break, once done a 10hr shift with no breaks one time too), it was at 12pm on a Wednesday/Thursday, a time when it was quiet people were in work or school/college, and the only people we’d get was the odd dog walker or two. I never understood, during the 4 months I worked there, why there was no one with you on the day so you can take a break, or in general why you were not allowed to take a break at all.
At that time I decided I would sit outside, have a bite to eat and drink and sat right outside the shack and said left a note saying “I would be back at 12.30 sharp”. I came back sharp at 12.30pm to look after customers and I didn’t think much of it.
That was until 8 whole days later when I got a post it note at 8/8.30 in the morning telling me I’m not allowed to take a break and that I was only allowed toilet breaks. I was baffled, no text, no call from the manager or the owner, nothing.
On the same day (another 9hr shift) after I closed up, I got told it was my last day and that I was gone. I had to wait a week after I got fired to find out the reasons. Eventually the owner got back to me and told me taking a break was one of the main reasons, he tried to explain the person who complained is a “good customer”. In my eyes, a “good customer” should understand that you are entitled to a break if you’re a working a 9hr shift. There were other reasons (the odd coffee or so wasn’t up to standard) I owned up to some of the complaints that were mentioned, which was fair enough.
One thing I couldn’t wrap my head around as I asked to owner, why I was not given a 3 strike warning, which is what workers should get when a complaint is made, and why was I not told sooner about these complaints instead of days and weeks later. The owner seemed annoyed that I was still texting him and refused to answer my questions saying that “I don’t need to keep going back and forward with this”. I just wanted a simple answer as to why he and the manager let it all bundle up into one, instead of telling me, so I could’ve prevent these things from happening again.
I really enjoyed the company of fellow staff, 99% of the customers were some of the nicest and sweetest people I’ve ever met. Unfortunately it had to end because the owner and manager let me go because I was following my basic workers rights and never told me about the complaints I have recieved. It’s a shame, I’m the type of person who always wants to improve and get along with everyone, I made some lovely connections with customers and staff, I had met the owner on several occasions, and he was the nicest owner I met, based on my previous jobs, but I can’t get over the fact no one would alert you if you have gotten a complaint or an issue, which would lead to your sacking. Just because the manager and other people don’t do breaks for 9hrs work (which they’re entitled to bearing in mind) that does not mean I can’t say, no, I’m taking my break.
14/03/2025: Big toasties of very good quality at an excellent price! Perfect for a takeaway quick stop, but you can also sit outside if you wish. Highy recommended

Abrakebabra
Dublin
29/07/2023: Love my kebabs, so these are always nice, it's in a garage with groceries as well, but has a nice little dining area, nice staff, give plenty on the kebab.
22/07/2023: Asked for a doner kebab tray, and all I got was a tiny box full of vegetables and about 5 tiny pieces of doner. Disappointing as I spend 8€ and didn't even snack

Centro Bar & Pizza
Dublin
03/06/2024: That's the place I will play deep house this Friday the 7th 😎
07/05/2024: I have really good memories about this place and spending Fridays there after work, however I need to give 4 of 5, because the music there can be sometimes incredibly loud that you can’t hear person next to you. I would understand this in club or bar in the city centre but not in the business park pub where people come after work to talk 😪 when some DJs were playing there the music was good tho if you like tech-house/techno vibe 🙌🏼
