Aherne's
Youghal
22/03/2026: We had the most fabulous stay at Ahernes in Youghal. From the moment we arrived, the hospitality was wonderfully personable — the kind that makes you feel genuinely cared for and welcome.
We chose the tasting menu and it was exceptional: generous portions, beautifully prepared dishes, and a lovely relaxed atmosphere. Ann looked after us throughout the evening and she was absolutely wonderful — attentive, warm, and so lovely.
Breakfast was superb, the perfect finish to our stay. David and Gaye are such warm, welcoming hosts; you can feel the pride and heart they put into everything.
07/03/2026: Just had a lovely stay here. Seafood was amazing, service is so friendly and I love the old school ease with which everything was done. Breakfast also superb. Room was big and clean. Carpark round the back, great pub 2 doors down (Berties). The owners love what they do and it shows..

Red Store
Youghal
14/02/2026: Went for valentine's dinner food was savage. The staff were very accommodating and friendly. 0 complaints
31/12/2025: So pleased with this gem on Main Street on the Waterford side of Youghal. Just before Christmas after peak lunch hour, we went for a taste of what Red Store had to offer.
We were not disappointed. Two of our party had the pork (one of the specials), one Thai chicken curry and one had the 6oz steak. Food came out piping, and was just poetry on a plate. Desserts of jelly and ice cream, warm apple pie and strawberry cheesecake followed.
Pork was succulent but where was the apple sauce (small over sight) and the well done steak was a ‘good tender enjoyable chew’ but missed the onions. Thai chicken curry had a tickle of spice and just right fit portion of rice.
The hot Apple pie with ice cream had a perfect measured level of sweetness and softness ( no tough crust). Strawberry cheesecake was not served as a slice but in a wine goblet with dust crumbled biscuit for base and a very strawberry moussy top that was peaked with faux cream.
Service was friendly and there was a lovely casual atmosphere to the place with conversation at normal decibel level being feasible. At time of visit / local artist Pauline Neville’s works were on display and her nearby art gallery is very much worth a visit.
Great showing!!

The Walter Raleigh
Youghal
19/03/2026: Had my son's Confirmation meal at the hotel recently. My husband and I had visited the hotel and met with Jessica weeks prior. She showed us around the different private rooms and we picked Raleighs, a small private room at the back of the hotel. It was for a group of 10 people. We had other venues lined up and even though the Walter came in more expensive we decided to pay that bit extra for a private room and a nice atmosphere. We paid our 100 deposit that day and we were looking forward to the event. Roll on to my son's special day, we arrived at the hotel and I went to let reception know that we had arrived. We were then told that another family were in the room we booked. Then, a few excuses from other staff members were that it was because we were a smaller group. Another excuse was that construction work was going on outside the window of the room and another one was that the breakfast stuff was put in there that morning. We ended up sitting out in the lobby on a makeshift table. We felt like we were sitting in a hallway. People were passing us and children from other parties were running around our table and at one stage went in underneath our table. My husband complained to the duty manager who seemed very dismissive. Later when my husband was up at the bar he was told the round had no charge. This was for 3 alcohol beverages and 3 soft drinks. We left feeling very disappointed and embarrassed in front of our guests. My son kept asking why we were sitting in the lobby when we had booked a private room. The next day, I emailed the hotel to complain and though apologetic at first, all we got was excuses. No offer of anything else or any other goodwill gesture. If you want to have a special family occasion, look elsewhere. I would not recommend this hotel.
23/02/2026: Sheltered from rain shower
