18/02/2026: If you're coming on weekend, I recommend to book a table in advance. Food is delicious and served quickly, there's a broad variety of wines to choose from. Staff is very nice and helpful. There's an underground car park at the back. Dimmed light and music in the background add on to the atmosphere of this place.
20/01/2026: Dog Friendly in Bar
Pet Suite not available to book online but very easy to book, must contact hotel directly

21/02/2026: We loved the informality of the evening elevated by the presentation of unexpected surprises.
BLACKTHORN, Barna, Galway City is a destination delight. This award winning experience is spacious, charming and delightful which warrants the expectation of a wonderful atmosphere and visit.
Championed by headchef Nathan Hindmarsh who prepares and showcases an inspired menu embracing land, fire and sea; with locally sourced Irish ingredients.
Culinary and Service Excellence is the ethos of this Barna Gem. Warmly welcomed by restaurant manager Fergal Guiney who carries the accolade of being a trained sommelier - his bonus point is having a natural appreciation of fulfilling the guests' concept of an enjoyable experience'.
This is a return bucket list treat to experience wonderful memories with family, friends, colleagues or corporate clients. If you're looking for something uniquely different, to gift or be gifted check out the wonderful BLACKTHORN, Barna, Galway City.
28/12/2025: I was really looking forward to trying the steak tartare at BlackThorn as this dish is for me a true indicator of a restaurant’s quality. Unfortunately, it was a huge disappointment.
Visually, it was promising: the meat was nicely chopped and well presented with onion and pickles. The problem appeared with the very first bite — the entire dish was completely dominated by horseradish. I couldn’t taste the meat, the onion, or any sense of balance at all. The horseradish overwhelmed everything else.
Additionally, the texture of the meat was watery, giving the impression that it had been quickly defrosted and served immediately without proper preparation. When it comes to steak tartare, this is unfortunately disqualifying.
It’s a real shame, because my expectations were high and the potential of the dish was completely wasted.

30/03/2024: Great coffee. Busy popular spot in Barna Village. The pancakes with yogurt and berries were great and copious serving. Friendly staff. Nice outdoor seating if weather good. Warm and cosy indoors when weather otherwise. Local staff and which is becoming the exception..keep up the good work
